Forums - Gaming Discussion - MP3 vs Bioshock: reviews

I agree with what your saying about the wii rocketpig but in the N64's defence most of its top games came out within its first year on the market. I think the most disturbing thing about the wii is that we're almost a year in and all we have is one good game and one good port.

Absolutely. But at least with the Wii, there is SSBB, SMG, and MP3 (a vastly overrated series IMO) coming out this year.

I personally think that this year's GoTY will come down to SMG and Bioshock unless Mass Effect absolutely floors everyone, which I doubt it will. I think it will be brilliant but not on the feel of Bioshock or the gameplay of SMG.

Bioshock didn't get a low rating because it does not have a multiplayer but I can bet all my socks that a lot of reviewers will say that MP3 suffers from lack of multiplayer. What sucks even more.. when the hell was Metroid about multiplayer?!

EDIT: ^^ Metroid Prime an overrated series? That's like saying Halo is an under-rated series. You played it and didn't have a clue what to do didn't you? Or you expected another generic shooter? Poor soul...

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

Yeah... Poor soul. I've played almost every major release and have owned every major platform since the 2600... Poor soul is me.

Flat-out, I don't think MP is a great series. It's good, yes. I think it's a weak follow-up to the original 2D Metroid, which I think is one of the greatest game series of all time (take your pick of Metroid, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, whatever).

Metroid Prime offered nothing new to me. It offered iffy controls, an interesting story, and generally, good-to-great gameplay depending on the mission. Go ahead and bash Halo because you know what, I'll probably agree with you... Excepting one point: Halo brought amazing multiplayer to a console system (something I enjoyed for years previous on PC). The MP series has brought NOTHING innovative to my console(s). Maybe the Wii version will change that and I'll be the first to jump on board if it's a great game. But stop feeding me bullshit about how I've never played the series just because I think it's mediocre. If anything, I call it mediocre because YOU haven't played anything better.

SMG will hopefully be really good. However im losing faith in the wii's ability for FPS, i've played red steel and call of duty 3 and they were dodgy at best.

When the wii was announced i was hoping it would change FPS for the better, i've yet to see the proof.

Well I agree with you rocketpig mostly since I too played a lot of games in the FPS genre and I also agree with you that Halo has the most satisfying multiplayer experience since Mario Kart.

But, at least in my opinion, I find Metroid Prime's single player to be, quite frankly, amazing. And I thought it brought plenty of innovative things to the table like the atmosphere... specifically the cloustrophic atmosphere. The sense that you're totally ALONE in a humongous world. And that everyone is this said world is looking for you, to kill you. Metroid is one of the few still standing franchises that made a brilliant transition from 2D to 3D.

At least me and many others think so. It seems our opinion differs completely!

CoD3 and Red Steel were both launch window games. Plus Red steel was exremely rushed. So dont judge the Wii's FPS control capabilites by those games. Wait for MP3, Brothers In Arms and Medal Of Honour Heroes 2.

Our opinions don't differ so greatly. I said the MP series was overrated, yet I still called it a great game. It offered nothing extraordinary to me, but it was still a very good game.

This thread is about Bioshock vs. MP3. Bioshock, frankly, is going to beat the hell out of MP3. In fact, I think it's going to beat the hell out of every game this year. After playing through the demo three times, it's so amazing that I can't even comprehend what is coming next in the full game. It's revolutionary in its storytelling, something that Metroid held in the 80s and 90s but not now. Games have advanced yet in the Metroid series, I continue to get a lesser and lesser experience each time. Whereas each time I play another Mario game, it keeps getting better

From someone who started playing Mario Bros. (not SUPER Mario Bros), that carries a lot of weight in it.

Thank you for your input. I'll be sure to put that in the nearest circular information storage facility that I find.

FYI, it's spelled "heresy".
