But guys, your really need to stop those kind of BS. Marging on console will always be low, it is an expensive one shot for the consumer and the industry.

Marging comes from Software (games) and services (PSN,Home, XBL,XBLA, XBM... whatever).

You DON'T make a living out of console hardware....urgh..

no, if a game like LBP profited at 250k everyone would be making video games because it's pretty damn easy to get a game like that to sell 250k.  Not only that but the advertising budget for LBP must have been massive.  If Sony actually made that much profit on their software then they must be losing an absolutely massive amount of money on the hardware.

I read "average cost of HD games in 2007 were 15million" so let me change this part. "I'm sure Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 2, Uncharted, FF13(which was still exclusive in 07) and MGS4 have nothing to do with that" which most of those games are 1st party,

27 dollars goes to developers 250k tmes 27 = 6,750,000 divide that by 25 = 270k per person for the game... doesnt sound reasonable for a very small studio with noprevious work to pay tha much?

With all the loses 360 & ps3 hardware has incurred, i don't see MS or Sony making their next console much more expensive than the retail price.

The only consoles to have been sold using a loss leading strategy have been PS1, PS2, XB, PSP, X360 and PS3.

The PS1 was originally making a profit in Japan, but for the American launch Sega frightened Sony into cutting the RRP $100, which would have been an illegal practice had they not quickly cut the price in Japan as well..... That strategy pulled off, the PS1 crushed the Saturn and built up a commanding lead before Nintendo even released the N64.

Had that strategy not worked that time, I highly doubt Sony would have used it again for the PS2..... It also seems clear from the 5 consoles with that strategy that generally it needs to be launched a good time before the major competitors, this is perhaps why the PS3 has not done so well. (I'm not saying they should have had a higher launch price, but not using a loss leadin strategy would have seen a very different PS3)

Resellers must have their profit, so if it costs $299 to build, most probably Sony is losing a little bit in USA and Japan and maybe profiting a little bit in EU. Anyway this would be good, if true they could afford a $100 cut in April with little WW temporary losses, or even a painless $50 one in April or $100 in Autumn.

even if it was at $299 im in big doubt that they make profit in the Uk since theres 15% VAT plus the shops have to make profit on the consoles aswell
