I managed to pick up Fable 2 brand new in Jan sales yesterday for £20. After spending the first 4 hours on the game, so far it is the BEST rpg Ive ever played. Dont get me wrong, I love JRPG's but Fable 2 is a pure reason to lose my life for the next 60 hours of gaming. It has something which JRPG's just couldnt hope to have.  I cant quite put my finger on it, but the game just draws you in and immerses you in a way that an RPG has never quite done for me before.

It's got that perfect middle aged England feel that Tolkien wrote down for Lord of The Rings all those years ago. The artwork has much to play to this. I will add here it's the best artwork of any game I have seen. Because of this alone over both Gears 2 and MGS4 it now has my vote for best graphics of 2008. Gears 2 and MGS4 are both doing more in graphics technology, but Fable 2's graphics just have you in complete fantasy wonder. Every once in awhile we all have that game that hits the perfect sweet spot for us. This game is certainly that for me.

Albion is a place I want to stay in. A place I dont want to leave. And all in all a place I give 10/10.

Why oh why did I not buy this earlier.

I have a feeling it will be my new best game of this gen, but I will reserve that until I have played 50+ hours of this Lionhead masterpiece.

All I can say is I will certainly look very closely at anything Lionhead have in production. They certainly are doing everything right.

Even though I don't own an xbox, this is the title that tempted me the most to go 360.

Although your "hours to spend" seem a tad much. The biggest complaint I always hear about fable and fable 2 is how ridiculously short it is.

 The main quest maybe short. But jesus christ I will easily be losing hours in this game with everything thats here. If you can justify Half Life 2 for instance for the 10 hours that took me. This easily is worth the money. I know some people that have played this game for over 100 hours.

Well, an RPG is vastly different from a shooter imho.

I need at least 30 to 50 hours with basically the main quest. (I'll take 20 hours if that's needed :p)

If fable 2 pulled off a Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn length (300 hours), I'd have an xbox tomorrow >_>

I think the reason Fable 2 is awesome is cause there is so much to do,everywhere you look you can do something,unlike most RPG where you cant even move let alone buy a house.

As much as my bias towards Tale of vesperia is trying to stop me from saying this, I agree.

Fable 2 was RPG gamers HEAVEN. Thats why I refer to ToV as the best JRPG this gen, not RPG anymore.

I think Fable 2 is best enjoyed without high expectations. It's a fun game. The people who don't like it are the ones who seem to over analyze it.

In all seriousness, you should enjoy whatever game you want on whatever console. I certainly will be looking closely at several PS3 games, and my Fiance wants a wii. Hence I would be able to experience Mario Galaxy.

The 360 is affordable at middle level (60gb) console. All I will say is I never in a million years expected to be this impressed by this game. If you can afford it Fable 2 is worth it. And there are plenty of other great exclusive games to warrant the purchase after your all said and done with Fable 2. Lost Odyssey is another great RPG as well as Tales and Star Ocean if RPG's are your thing.

But the choice is yours my friend. :)

Personally, I thought the game was mediocre and a dissapointment compared to the hype I had built up for it. I can see where others would disagree with my opinion though. I think I would have enjoyed it much more had it not been in the shadow of Fallout 3 just a week later to be honest. Honestly Fallout 3 has by far been my rpg of this gen.
