Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii and third parties, same history?

We have been hearing and believeing that 3rd party publishers were going to shift development, or at least make some core or higer budget games for the Wii, but we are now into 2009 and things are going the same route.

EA announce MySims Party, MySims Racing, EA Fitness, Nascar Kart Racing.
Ubisoft announces Greys Anatomy and some new Petz games.
THQ threatens Wii owners to go into the minigame route if their core and niche games dont sell millions.

Any thoughts?

Threatening me to buy something will only make me not buy it. be nice and you will get what you want stupid THQ. Still it is to early in the year to say what games are coming from 3rd parties. At least wait until E3 and then we will se if there will be more support or not.

Those devs. simply can't ignore a demographic that enjoys the above games. They're just making them AND core games.

As a guess it probably takes 33% to 66% as many developers 50% to 75% as long to make the kinds of games you listed than a game like Spyborgs or MadWorld ... Now, given similar resources this would translate to 2 to 6 times as many of these smaller games being released (or announced) in the same timeframe.

Personally, I suspect the success of the Wii has translated into developers realizing that not everyone wants the experiences they have offered with the HD consoles and they probably are focusing on creating different kinds of games on the Wii. I do think they are working on more conventional big budget games, but with how long these games tend to take to develop and how few they can develop at a time they will never make up the bulk of most third party publisher's line-up for the Wii.

Yeah, my thoughts are that your post fails.

-The Conduit
-MadWorld
-House of the Dead
-Sonic and the Black Knight
-Monster Hunter 3
-No More Heroes 2
-Spyborgs
-Red Steel 2
-I Am Alive
-DRAGON QUEST X!
-Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (2 games)
-Zack and Wiki 2
-Sam and Max

Not everyone can instantly switch over, but no one should be upset with that list, which I just pulled from the top of my head and is incomplete.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Third parties clearly don't take the Wii seriously and you can't blame them after seeing the million seller list. Every leading console has a lot of crappy games with high sales, but at least in the past there's been a balance.

Japanese 3rd parties are getting it, western 3rd parties aren't. The westerners are starting to pay more lip service to the platform, as opposed to ignoring it entirely or downplaying it's success, which is a start.

Of course, these are just generalizations. There are still some Japanese 3rd parties who don't get it, and some Westerners who get it quite well

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

are the bolded confirmed?

That list contains games that arent even announced :O

But my point is that this bi western developers are still announcing casual and minigame collections despite us hearing that games may take up to 2 - 3 years to be developed. Why are they still announcing them and not announcing any core games? This games are very cheap and just lazy attempts. Ive yet to see a mirrors edge or a splinter cell type of game from those devs on the Wii.

We have to admit it, they wont be happening, believe what you want but I guess that 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 are enough for them to change their minds, they just keep on announcing the same old boring stufff over and over again.

the wii's million sellers list is like that because third parties failed to give any good core games to the wii(with the exception of a few) so if there are no core games on the wii then yeah of course the casual game will sell better. they have no competition
