Forums - Sony Discussion - What is the true production cost of the PS3?

In 2011. What is the true production cost of the PS3??

Don't necro threads just for asking a question =/

By last year it was about $240 I believe. But who knows.

I remember Sony saying they make profit on each console since 2011, so it must be under 299 dollars. I think they could cut the production costs under 249 now, though since I don't think Sony would sell PS3's without profit ever again.

updated: 14.01.2012

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

sony was making profit from Q1 2010,sony's cfo announced that they were making under $10 then

that time it would have been around $275 as retailer share

issuplly does each part on itself and does not count economies of scale

then after they have reduced die parts,RSX reduction, design change, parts getting common and economies of scale

SONY is making a profit on the PS3,with economies of scale the production cost is under $200 atm

well, that is great news then. Sony urgently needs to cut even from the terrible launch. I don't think they will be able to profit much from this gen, but at least they should try to cut even.

they will easily cut even

main SONY losses weren't directed by PS division but by BLU-RAY foundation that PS3 helped stage.

hardware,SOFTWARE sales,blu-ray royalties will more than take care of itself

plus it gives PS4 space for low price-point which is the main part now

ok i'll estimate since they started making a profit i believe last yr or early this yr i'd say with the price drop incoming $20 a console after the price drop.

thats how much they'll make

if Sony did sell PS3 without profit it would likey be to close out this genfor PS4 to likely profit from PS3 sales later in the yr or the next.(speculation only)
