Rumors yeah, but declarations from Sony not that I know of.

I don't think Sony would want to force MS to cut prices. A price war is clearly not in Sony's favor.

M$ is scared that PS3 will drop price, because they know PS3 will go on to outsell 360 as soon as it happens.

Gotta give it to these guys, this is a genius move whether a price cut comes or not.

 

 

They predicted the launch of the $399 40gb SKU like three months before it happened.  So many people said, "There's now way in HELL that's gonna happen!"

The downside to this is you can only use the trick so many times.
