Forums - Gaming Discussion - Prediction: Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII will not be AAA games

Outcast, you're very wrong. Just because you don't like FFX, FFVIII, X-2, and XII doesn't make them terrible games. And why are you trying to compare non-FF team related games to games that are being developed by FF teams? That's seriously retarded.

Do not underestimate the power of "Hype". Reviewers will be afraid to give these games less than a 9.3

4 ≈ One

i terribly disagree with u. i think ffX is fantastic. ffx-2 is just very different from other ff games, u have to play it without the perception of usual ff fomula, treat it as a brand new ip then u will enjoy it. although i never play ff11 before, and ff12 is abit of step back i agree

No. All the other new ones have been.

FFXIII and VXIII will both be triple A games. Look at the team who is making FFVXIII before you begin to doubt it.

Umm almost agree with your post except for X which I think was the last great Final Fantasy...Really SE has been fucking up this Gen and its really starting to hurt them given the fact that NONE of their games have made it over past a million yet. My guess is that they should probably go back to their roots and not try to appeal to Western Gamers but to their hardcore Japanese crowd.

Honestly I think thats what pulled most people into Final Fantasy in the first place. A little taste of an Eastern developed game.... Start making games for your fanbase on their platforms (Wii and PS3 where the fanbase is in Japan) and start gravitating towards a more Japanese feel in your games and you will find Success both Critically and Commercially

Except back in the SNES and the PS1 eras, Japanese developed games were the best games out there.  Western games have surpassed Japanese games in several ways.  10 years ago, JRPGs was considered to have some of the best storytelling of any genre.  Now, many feel that a lot of the stories in JRPGs are carbon copies of past JRPG stories.  You will be suprised by the fact that Western developers have surpassed Japanese developers when it comes to storytelling(some exceptions aside) despite the fact that Western developers used to think stories were unnessessary in games.

As of Now I agree with you that the story telling in Western Games are currently better than Eastern games (Except a few of course) My main gripe with Final Fantasy XII is gameplay and Story (Didnt finish it) Gameplay and Story SE seems to be flopping and screwing up themselves. the Western approach the lack of emphasis on story and romance its really fucked up

Black Women Are The Most Beautiful Women On The Planet.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Well, if FF XIII aren't going to be AAA games, then where do you expect the next epic AAA storytelling rpg to come from?

Bioware.

Mass Effect 2.

/thread.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Its got nothing to do with its quality.

The majority of FF fans will NEVER EVER admit that this game is sucks if it actually does. They along with the media (to a lesser extent) will praise the fuck out of it. Especially since they would look like fools because they are anticipating this game like crazy,

Why? Because if two simple words.

Final.Fantasy.

They'll be AAA going by reviews, shit like Final Fantasy gets a free ride by name alone.
