Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why are Metroid franchise sales so low? How can the franchise grow?

For the last damn time Metroid isnt a shooter!!! I rather hell freeze over than have another half asses attempt at multiplayer like in Echoes. Besides, the games dont need it.

Yeah I know action adventure game with shooting elements.  If Nintendo actually would make a full effort attempt at multiplayer it could be excellent.  The game doesn't need it but it wouldn't hurt.

I've still never bought a Metroid game.

Nintendo still doomed?
Feel free to add me on 3DS or Switch! (PM me if you do ^-^)

IF MEtroid could do online multiplayer, it shouldnt be your standard DM or TDM. Put somthing like 4 players in a huge open world, and have them search for somthing. If people meet up, theyll have to kill each other to steal the other persons item (like the oktolisths in Hunters). That way you still retain what makes Metroid great, but have some action and online play. Course this wouldnt happen...

Stop with the empty environments and long areas of jumping around doing nothing. Make it a proper shooting game.

I am also disappointed with the sales. The 2D Metroid games are some of the best I have ever played and it is such a shame that there are so many that have never tried it. I still need to play the Prime games, but I will this year starting with the remakes to see how the 3D ones are like.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

You have summed up, simultaneously, every single bad idea that could be applied to the Metroid franchise. Except for the whole "make it cinematic" thing.

I have to say it, this thread is full of bad ideas. I hope when they make the next Metroid game they think long and hard about what the game should be, and not simply adopt ideas that sound cool.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Most of the suggestions here suck. IMO, Retro addressed most of the problems I saw with the series in MP3. The worlds were well divided which considerably lessened backtracking & getting lost. And the controls worked perfectly with the combination of locking & aiming.

Multiplayer is stupid. More FPS-style shooting is stupid. That's not what Metroid is about. There are plently of other games doing those things.

That being said, I think Nintendo should halt 3D Metroid for the forseeable future. Maybe make that rumored 2D "Metroid Dread" for the DS or even as WiiWare title. But I don't see any real path of advancement for the first person games as of now.

as said by others, an online multiplayer would be sweet. But aside from this, the story is kind of bad now.
