Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS3 stills has a chance for 2nd place?

The only reason I can think of that would keep the PS3 selling after the Xbox 360's successor comes out is if Sony doesn't release a successor to the PS3 for a while after and Microsoft immediately stops selling the Xbox 360.

That could actually make the PS3 more relevant than it has been so far, as it could be the only way to get a new system that could play all of this generation's cross platform games when the next generation is started.

Frankly, I think that if Sony was really interested in making a PS4, they'd try to beat MS to market.

For all those people who said the PS3 cannot overtake the 360 because no console has come from 8 million behind before - don't you realise that this generation is unlike all others? For a start we have 3 successful consoles in it, which has not happened before as usually there are two and all the others fall by the wayside.

For me, the answer to the question is "unlikely but not impossible". It depends if Sony do cut the price by $100, whether they get their marketing right and whether their hyped up games turn out to be any good or not.

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

For a start were only having ONE successful console.

Nintendo is the only one making money not Microsoft or Sony.

Well X360 boosted it's sales this christmas and pre-christmas period due to excelent line-up, free LIVE in some bundles and a price cut. PS3 was outselling it all year since that happenend.

So From now on, the PS3 will for shure have a price cut and I bet that Killzone2 will boost it like MGS4 did. The question, with a gap now counting 8 Million from Microsoft machine, will it be on time to overtake 360 and gain the second place?

I personally think not, it would end up the generation really close, but not surpass.

Do not put Killzone franchise in the same sentence with MGS4.

Microsoft confirmed that the 360 will die the day after PS3 dies.

Depends on how it will sell at 299$/€.

And i hope you meant in terms of SALES?
Because in terms of GAMES it was already N1 in 2008, and will be continue being N1 in next 5-7 years atleast. =)

This I disagree with. Personally I am also a JRPG lover and 360 easily has the better pick of 2008. VC for instance I would never like, because SRPG I dont really like. Also Considering Gears 2 is in my top 3 games of all time. I have to disagree entirely. As do probably at least 20 mill 360 owners out of the 27 mill.

PS3 still has a shot at first place especially if this industry is about quality games rather than fad controllers.

Yes, lets just see the PS3 just magically gather 27 million consoles and grant your delusions.

P.S.

Anything that is of true quality will always come in smaller amounts.

Out of the big $60.00 exclusives from 2008, the 360 only had two games that managed anything approaching respectable review scores while the PS3 had two 9+ exclusives compared to the 360's 1 at Game Rankings and at IGN the PS3 had four 9+ exclusives from these games while the 360 had 1 9+ exclusive 1 high 8 game, and the rest were B-'s and Cs.  Game Trailers said the PS3 had the best game lineup in 2008.  In 2009, I predict Alan Wake will be a C or B-, ODST will be a B+, and Halo Wars will be a B to B+.  Meanwhile the PS3 will have several A games released throughout 2009.
