3. HUGE linup. Uncharted 2, god of war 3, gran turismo 5, killzone 2, infamous, white knight chronicles, ratchet and clank future series, the list goes on.

No.

The bolded are 2010 titles and the list really doesn't go on. It's Heavy Rain and thats it.

Come on, anyone who seriously believes any AAA exclusive has a hope in hell of moving a substantial amount of PS3s needs to get his head examined. Every time a PS3 exclusive nears release (and they're getting scarce) the fanboys go rabid and proclaim it to be THE title that'll turn the tide for the console. Then, it doesn't happen. *Yawn*

And let's not forget; the bolded are also the only games even close to the level of GTA (GT5) and MGS (God of War), and we all know how those huge games didn't turn into anything.

This arguement could just as easily have been written in 2007 about 2008.  I see no reason to assume it will work out differently this time.

What does "Sony's year" mean?

Financially, it will be a disaster for the company as a whole. Due to the strong Yen, look out for a $1.5b+ loss reported at the end of January for the holiday quarter (not just my estimates, also based on Sony's CFO declarations and their revenue combined with profit margins). A $2.5 billion loss is not out of the question depending on their electronics sales performance throughout the holidays (Japanese electronics exports as a whole declined 25% in November if I remember correctly).

All this financial mayhem will mean that price cuts will be hard to stomach. I can see price cuts happening if the Yen weakens though, which would be a positive for 2009. However, it will still be hard for the PS3 to outsell the 360 this year before the holiday season. In the holiday season, any PS3 price cut may well be accompanied by a 360 price cut (halving 360's price 4 years after launch doesn't look very extreme considering a $100 PS3 price cut would mean a halved price 2-3 years after launch).

In short, I don't see any significant way in which 2009 is geared to be Sony's year. In fact in many ways it may be Sony's worst year in quite a long time.

I dk, It seems as though the US is gone to 360, now europe is still a toss up and Sony might get back on top there.

The interesting thing is while Sony tried 'casual' with LBP last yr 360 tried casual too but it was primarily targeting Wii audience share obviously. Now if MS continue doing this Sony might be in luck, they could capitalize on being "odd one out" at least while 360 doesn't have any HC titles out.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

So, I've been thinking and realized "OMG wow sony has a strong chance" reasons

1. Many devs are either increasing support or returning to the psp.

2. At some point they will be selling the ps3 for a profit, say hello to advertisments then.

3. HUGE linup. Uncharted 2, god of war 3, gran turismo 5, killzone 2, infamous, white knight chronicles, ratchet and clank future series, the list goes on.

4. Nintendo doesn't have any big releases that we know of. Microsoft has some

5. Ready at dawn studios might just make their own ip for the psp rather then using other titles. Everything they have made is/was genious

what do u think?

Even after they said they'd never make a PSP(1) game again?

I remember 2008 being hyped to be Sony's year based upon a strong line up. I'm not sure games are what will boost sony up.
