Forums - Sales Discussion - What do you think will be the PS3's LTD sales?

I can really predict what the sales will be. I can't stress anymore how "anything can happen in a year". The sales could rise or I don't know, there could be a lot of surprises. This gen doesn't end until 2011 or 2012. So a lot can change in three years. Expect the unexcpected.

Im skepticle because the $299 price point can either hurt or bring ps3 sales up significantly.

How could a price cut hurt the Ps3?

 By not pushing hardware.

Huh?

45m is my guess.

35-45 million tops

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

can't c this to do better than psp

50-70m

I think a price cut in Europe will have huge affect on sales in that region. I also believe at some point in time Japan will come around and contribute more to the PS3 sales than they have. I think PS3 will do fine in America but has lost to the 360 in that region.

I would also put the 360 at 50-70m

With Monster Hunter and Dragon quest heading to Wii, PS3 is a lame duck in Japan

It's hard to see that happening with a $100 price cut... In the worst case it would still generate a spike for a few weeks, and allow for better holiday sales later.

I guess Gran turismo and Final Fantasy wont do anything.

People are thinking this gen will end way to early. Computer technology isn't moving as fast as it has in the past, and is definitely not going to be at a price to be feasible to release a new console at by 2012. Factor in the huge investments / losses made earlier this gen and neither Microsoft or Sony will be keen to start another gen too soon.

I reckon Wii HD will hit around 2012 but Sony and Microsoft will hold off for a few more years. We've still got to see the next handhelds before thinking about consoles too.

But yeah, I'd say around 60m - 70m LTD. It's nearly outsold the GameCube and isn't priced anywhere near what the mass market can accept. It's got a lot longer to sell those units then previous generations and Sony will most likely start taking alot from the expanded market in 2-3 years when (if) Blu-Ray takes off, it's at a mass market price, HD uptake is higher and they've got their own brand of casual appeal type software / functions.

PS3 was released 2 years earlier then it should have been and most likely would have been.

Heard of this franchise called Final Fantasy? DQ is bigger but Monster Hunter, Monster Hunter 3G will do very well for the PSP. ;)
