Forums - Gaming Discussion - Lazy Sony and Nintendo...

Sony and Nintendo's handheld systems having gone through their third generation of the same thing!! (Techinical stuff)

For Nintendo:

DS Phat: 1st of its kind

DS Lite: Same thing as DS Phat, just smaller, lighter, and more modern looking

DSi: Same thing as Lite, without the GBA cart, limited Music Player, 2 low res. cameras, etc, slightly larger screens, etc.

For Sony:

PSP: 1st of its kind

PSP 2: Same thing, slightly smaller, more powerful (faster CPU)

PSP 3000: Same thing as 2nd ed. faster cpu (more powerful) more features then before

So what's my point? The point is that both companies have not come out with a totally new, redesigned handheld system. They're just sweetening the package with more features (which is a good marketing tool) as every generation comes. When will they have a new one?! I've been itching for something new!! (Even if it means a new PSP2!!) What's your take?

Sony and Nintendo are not lazy. Besides, I don't see Microsoft coming out with an handheld.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

you list the dsi as the same thing as the ds lite but then go on to point out like five new things with it..

wow fail.

hello how are you.

How does Microsoft have anything to do with the OP?

It is not that they don't want to do a new console... it is more likely to boost the sales when they are getting lower and lower, that's the strategy. Of course, I don't like that strategy, they should keep the same hardware version along the entire generation and boost the sales with tons of QUALITY SOFTWARE.

revisions are done are mainly to fight piracy and improve others things.

sony and nintendo have done a great job, in contrast to microsoft that still fixing their issues.

we will probably get new handhelds in a year or two, DS still has a lot of life left in it

I think Nintendo sell a lot of ds and have no need to change there excellent machine... end of that stupid discussion.

New hardware is introduced whenever the experiences from the existing hardware are becoming stale. That has always been the way in gaming: Software sells the hardware.

Developers have yet to utilize the full potential of the DS. With the addition of camera and music features in the DSi, there are more gameplay possibilities that can come out of those. Hence you will likely not get a DS2 in the near future.

On that note however, I think Sony should make a major revision with the PSP since the experiences from it is mostly the same experiences from the PS2 and PS3 (albeit portable.)
