Forums - Gaming Discussion - Recommend me my new gaming purchase (Choices inside)

Alrighty. Onyx got a little bit of scratch for X-Mas and a bit of extra cash from work too this Holiday season. This has left him with enough for a major purchase in gaming. Here are the choices:

1. Playstation 3-If I buy new I'll only have enough for a $30 game and no extra controller. If I can get used off Craigslist, I may be able to score a few decent games and an extra controller to go along with the console. I'm hoping for a 60GB, because my PS2 is busted, but I can live without the BC if I have to for now.

2. PC upgrade-This would be a less expensive venture, so it would allow me to buy a few games along with it off Steam, maybe $150 dollars worth. It's basically a RAM, video card, and other assorted tidbits to update and get my shit running well on current games.

3. Buy 360 and Wii games-This would allow me to gather all of the 360 and Wii software I've missed all year. The only downside of this(and really any of my choices) is that I have a ton of games in my library I've barely touched. Fable II(halfway through), Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, COD: WaW(Haven't done the campaign yet) and others also. On top of that I just purchased Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, Condemned and All Pro Football 2K8 from Gamestop on a cheapie Buy 2 Get 1 free deal.

These are the choices. What are your suggestions? No fighting please. Remember this is Onyxmeth and I'll be active in this thread.

You got Bleach: Dark Souls yet?

Without knowing the exactly what you like, i'd probably go for a pc upgrade. PS3s are still expensive and you can spend time chipping away at your existing backlog while waiting for a substantial ps3 price drop. It's the cheapest option and one that will allow you access to some great upcoming games.

Personally, I say get a PS3, it would be a purchase that I can see you benefitting the most from down the future. You can never go wrong with all three consoles. At least that's how I feel owning all three consoles. Is it possible for you to get the PS3 with the Uncharted bundle because that would already give you an amazing experiance packaged in. There are also some amazing exclusives that you can probably get for $30 as well as some greatest hits titles. I believe I remember you disliking MGS4? If not I'm sure you can find it somewhere for $30. I know blockbuster has it new for $39.99

i would recommend PS3 or PC upgrade, you can always buy games later for Wii and 360, between PC and PS3, i would choose the PC Upgrade but if your PC can play new games in Low settings, go with PS3.

Considering that you have a decent back-catalogue of games to catch up on I'd have to recommend the PC upgrades. Personally, I'd wait for the PS3 to receive a price-cut before picking one up.

The Uncharted bundle is overpriced. I can grab an 80GB for $400 and Uncharted for $60 in an absolute worst case scenario of pricing. I don't feel like paying an extra $40 for some extra giga space. I'm a huge Metal Gear fan, so it'll definitely be on my shortlist of purchases if I go this route. If I do need to stick with a $30 game at retail prices, I'll probably pick up Warhawk.

I say go play Condemned. Then spend your money on Imagine: Party Babyz or something of that nature to help even you out.

Since you have a back catalog of games, I don't see any reason to do any of the 3. You'll just be getting more games with any of the 3 choices, and keeping those games from being unplayed. And, you know, that's really all they strive for in life.
