Forums - Gaming Discussion - What's with these rehashes and generic games? (long)

^ well if you like rehashes then that's you. i personally can't stand them.

and no, the problem with gta is not in the so called realism. if anything, that was a step forward in the right direction. reviewers praised that move, including IGN. the problem with gta is that it was less than the predecessor.

WRONG

Ask the gamers they know it better. It's too realistic. GTA series was NEVER realistic and it was fun because it was unrealtistic.

and there's your massive list of world war 2 based games. world at war is a rehash.

You failed to see my point. CoD World at War's story is 65% about the Pacific War so there are new weapons etc.

I've counted 4 Pacific FPS. That's next to nothing.

4 pacific fps is nothing? so you have already 4 full games that deal with the exact same content as world at war? i rest my case. it's definitely a rehash then.

and then you have a 35% european war, where there have been dozens upon dozens of rehashes? 35% isn't nothing.

so based on your own argumentation, the whole of world at war has been done before and done many times. thanks for letting that rest.

as far as gta goes, read the reviews. all the reviews that gave it a 10. they gave it a 10 for the reason that it was realistic. i would take the reviewers word more than yours.

You're excited when something is merely being done for the fifth time?

You write nothing but shit.

Medal of Honor Pacific Assault (PC) is 4 years old !!!!

Medal of Honor Rising Sun (GC, XBOX, PS2) is 5 years old !!!!!

Deadly Dozen Pacific Theater (PC) is 6 years old !!!!!!

Battlefield 1942 (PC) is 6 years old !!!!!!

They all have different battles, weapons and gameplay.

35% European War - That's right, but every person, who think it's exactly the same like every other WWII game is simply dumb. I'll say it again for you. Call of Duty tells us a great story and even more important you can feel the atmosphere.

I never said you should take my word over the reviewers. I said you should ask the people who played GTA IV who aren't under the pressure of writing articles about it.

Make a poll or something. GTA is hated by the gamers, because it delivers too much realism and that's exactly the reason why there is no fun. They wanted to make a realisitc Russian gangster storyline. There is no place for funny missions.

Says the guy who owns 5 Gran Turismo games xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

After working it retail its really easy to know why. People buy off brand. That's just how it goes. The mainstream walk in and ask what's the latest war shooter or latest Call of Duty and that's what we tell them. They ask what's the best wrestling game and we say WWE. They go see a popular movie and they want the game for it. They don't care if its good or not. They just buy off brand and usually they'll like it. Just how it works.

@Barozi

I'm not into FPS as much as I used to be but I still fancy the standout titles in the genre :P

See and you have Call of Duty 4. Hasn't it given you a special feeling because of the atmosphere? For example when the atomic bomb is exploded and you crawl out of your helicopter just to see the destroyed area or when you played Captain Price in Chernobyl.

Well World at War has such moments as well.

I think you picked bad examples. Usually the AAA games push graphics and gameplay forward. The first time I played horde mode in Gears2 I thought I can't believe no one has done this before. I think the storytelling of COD4 and COD:WaW is a leap forward from similar style games.

When I think generic, I think stuff like Haze, Timeshift, Conan, Golden Axe. The lower budget games usually try to emulate the more creative and successful AAA games. On the cheap side, I thought Gripshit, Poker Smash, and the Simpsons game has been creative low budget games.
