Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii Technical Troubles

Hey guys. Just wondering if any of you have ever had this problem and know how to fix it.

So yesterday we got a new TV. An LCD full-HD 100Hz one that is awesome, especially compared to my old 60Hz non-flatscreen CRT. So I go and plug in the antenna, DVD and Wii and install the TV stations. I then test the DVD and the Wii. DVD works, Wii doesn't. It just says "Unknown Signal" on the TV. I think that maybe the AV2 port is screwed, so I unplug the DVD and Wii and swap their cables around. DVD still works (but now on the other channel) and Wii still says Unknown Signal. So then I think that the cables might be screwed, so I plug the Wii back into the old CRT TV. It works perfectly. So then I plug it back into the new TV, get about half a second of sound as I plug the cable in, and then nothing except Unknown Signal.

Does anyone know what's going on? Oh yeah, and I'm using the standard cables out of the box, not component. I can't call Tech Support because they're shut.

I've never heard of an issue quite like this one. I've solved a lesser issue with VC games by switching to component cables, so if you can afford to drop some money on component cables, I'd recommend trying that.

Thanks, I am starting to consider that. I can only find third-party component cables near me. Are these okay to get?

If you use an HD tv for your Wii you should be using component cables anyway. :p And yeah, those 3rd party cables are fine, I got some myself.

I don't know about your problem specifically, but I have 3rd party component cables and they work just fine.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Got the component cables and they work fine. Thanks, guys.

interting, i've had this happen to a dvd player. later i worked out the cables did not work with that tv. after i switched to anohter brand it worked fine.

however you should upgrade to component cables anyway.

Not exactly related but i'll throw it in anyway. Has anyone had any problems with 3rd party component cables? I purchased some just before i left for China last time and they didn't work on my HDTV, didn't have time to find out what the problem was though.

I had a problem like that when I pluged the 360 into my new TV, but then I tried it through the other component ports and it worked, and now it works on both ports, so beats me what happened. Anyway its good to hear you got it sorted out! wii looks terrible on a full HD tv without component cables so it was a good investment! ;)
