I don't see what people have against Mario party 8. People need to realize that FPS and action games aren't the only ones worth playing. I doubt the entire MP8 consumer base is made up of 10 year olds and grandmas buying it for their 10 year old grandchildren. Gamers like a wide variety of games.

I was thinking the same thing.

People act like it's a sin that Mario Party 8 is successful, yet I don't remember any previous game in the series meeting this much adversity.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

I don't mind MP having success, but yesterday I played MP8 with a friend, and I didn't enjoy it at all. I've played only one MP game before (on the GameCube, maybe #4 or #5), and didn't like it neither. Everything goes sooo sloooow, you spend most of the time watching animations or reading instructions or just generally waiting.
Made me think that Mario Party series really is for kids (and I say that as a huge fan of real Mario games).

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

Because kids love reading instructions, right? It sounds to me like you just don't like the idea behind the series. I've been to parties where two games get played. Halo and MP 2 for the N64. Both of which are fun games which everybody enjoys.

Fact is the game is selling so well because the Wiimote ads something new. The same thing is happening with RE4. But no one is complaining about that.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

MP is like a boardgame, but on a console. Monopoly, Cranium, risk, there is alot of time spent reading, thinking, talking, laughing, arguing, reading the rules, arguing again, laughing, peeing and goofing off between actual playing, just like Mario Party. And don't forget booze. Monopoly was made to be a drinking game, a long...long...drinking game.

MP8 is my first foray into the series and I can honestly say I like it. It's definately more fun when four people get together and play it rather than playing the computer AI. My wife and I usually play one game a day before she goes to work.

I never played it before mostly because I didn't think that I would like it, but I should have known better, I've always enjoyed board games.

I bought the game... I don't regret the decision to get it. I live with my Fiance who isn't much of a gamer unless it's simple and fun multi player games like Zoo keeper, Clubhouse games, Mario Kart, Wii sports etc. I enjoy playing games with friends and family members who don't normally game. Mario Party 8 is just fine for such an occasion. I might know what is missing in MP8 but she doesn't nor does she care as she sees it as a fun game to play with me. Which makes the game more fun for me as well.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

LOL, that's exactly how we play Mario Party 8...  Also it sounds like Rasone77 feels much the same way I do about the game.

I should buy too, now that I think about it. My wife really liked the multiplayer on Sonic and the Secret rings, and she really liked Wario ware. I bet she'd really enjoy Mario party. We like to play boardgames together sometimes when we are both off work and just feel like vegging at home. Hmmm....Mario Party 8...

No, but because kids usually are a bit less smart than grown-ups.

I think I do get the idea, I just didn't enjoy it. I felt very passive playing this. On the other hand, we were just 2 people (-> 2 CPU opponents) and no booze, that was a mistake probably. Anyway, I had much more fun with Excite Truck, which turned out to be alot better than I expected.
