Forums - Sony Discussion - Why would Killzone 2 outsell Resistance 2 (or Resistance 1)?

Because sales doesnt make the game? XD

@flagship

Stop trolling, all those games have sold really well, LBP is selling amazingly well at the moment, with 1.5million copies sold to date, Ratchet and clank over 1.4 million, Uncharted over 2.4 million, Resistance 2 isnt selling bad its sold 1 million copies to date.

The ps3 has an amazing gaming library, I hate it when people attack it because of its sales, even if its selling well.

.... sigh...

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

No one considers Killzone 2 the PS3's "savior" other than the 360 fanboys who are waiting to use it against PS3 fans in about two weeks.

I couldn't have put it better than Solid_Raiden. It's actually one of the things which sickens me the most about this forum. It's like nobody but the PS3 fans actually plays the games they talk about.

The only tingh that irritates me on this forum is the PS3 fanboys using too much superlative wording about games features...and that it is never corroborate by sales figures...

nice taunt thread ^^

KZ2 will outsell R2 only because it has a lot more hype and R2 is selling badly (29K last week... won't pass 2M by a margin).
However KZ2 will have a hard time passing R1 as this title has sold 3.5M already... (Bundling and early bird helps)... I don't think it will, this would mean that 20% of the current PS3 owners are going to pick it up in off season...

edit: oh btw I see KZ2 selling 2.5M (2M-3M)

Of course it will outsell R2. Killzone 2 is potentialy the first world class FPS for the PS3 (it is about time by the way...).

But to tell that it is superior to every other fps on the market... sigh... it is becoming tiresome...

no, no game will replace the much needed US$100 price cut

After having played the beta I can argue its light years ahead of gears 2 visually...

gameplay wise that R3 aiming isnt good, but its fun as heck online.

In any case, its going to sell because its miles more hyped than resistance 2 ever was, and if it gets good reviews, im sure it will outsell Resistance 2, maybe even R1..

R2 has sold 1 million copies to date, and its continuining to sell 120-180k a week world wide.

Here we go again.... nobody mentioned Gears 2 and clearly there are areas where Gears> and others where

EDIT: My mistake, OP did mention Gears 2.

Anyway, why will Killzone 2 sell better than R2?

I'm not sure if it will, but being released in February with only SF4 to compete with definitely helps. So by the time christmas rolls around, KZ2 will potential have strong "legs" if the online community holds (I for one and jumping to CoD:MW2 straight away) then it should maintain solid sales (because it'll be at a cheaper price at that point).

R2 was a let down (sales wise) probably because it was set up to compete with Gears 2 directly. Not the best move releasing them so close together Sony (in terms of advertising, Gears 2 dominated R2, I rarely saw R2 ads in store and only 1 on tv once). On top of that, R2 had to compete with the impressive games that the PS3 got during that period as well as the games that became bargains at that point in time.

On top of that, for the gamers, it lost a bit of old school charm by choosing FPS standards as opposed to doing it's on thing (which was the old school thing) i.e completely regenerating health and since R1 came out looking like a pretty nice launch title graphically, people were expecting R2 to show off the PS3's "true capabilities" (i.e hyperbole from PS3 fanboys) and when it launched and looked only marginally better and definitely not Gears 2 great, people got a hard taste of reality (that the difference between PS3 and 360 real world running a game at a solid frame rate was basically nil).

Not sure the last paragraph was a big of an issue, I certainly didn't buy R2 (played it) because I thought the choosing to go conventional gameplay was a bad move and I was preoccupied with CoD5.

@point #2

Remember that this also meant that Resistance had an awful lot of competition.

@point #3

The in-game graphics just about match those from the infamous E3 trailer.

Just about anybody wwho played in the Killzone 2 beta states that it is a superior title to Resistance 2. Factor in the excellent review scores and it becomes clear why Killzone 2 may have more pre-orders than Resistance 2 has sales (1.1 million in Europe alone)
