Forums - Nintendo Discussion - "Metroid Channel" thoughts...

I would like it a lot more if you REALLY download the video to Wii memory. Streaming sucks.

I think the new Metroid channel/preview is pretty cool. It helps to raise the awareness of current Wii owners who aren't familiar with the series. It also helps that it looks really good.

I didn't like that it was in a tiny section of the screen, instead of the whole screen.

Is there any way to remove a channel after getting it?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Yes, at the data management on the options.

Ontopic, one option would be the one mentioned above, to use the data available on the disc (mainly textures) and just create the level itself and make it downloadable. Another one would be to procedurally generate the textures, if they don't want to use the same on the disc. They upload the code, and the Wii creates them on the fly... but this one isn't as easy.

It could be that Nintendo may be putting out games for Metroid Prime 3 updates kind of like Halflife Episode one or Episode 2. Sell a cheap disk with all the main stuff on it and a small downloadable executeable file from Nintendo Downloaded onto the Wii. Problem solved.

Apparently the wii uses 'special' nintendo discs which store 8.5Gb of space on a single layer.

Its actually 8.5GB on dual layer not single

Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius, and a lot of courage, to move in the opposite direction.

@Darklight - you are right. The spec does allow for dual layer, 8.5GB discs. It however also does say that its the same format as the GC disc - "The disc is a proprietary version of the eight centimeter DVD (MiniDVD) format". This is not the same format as DVD-9, although the Wii may be able to read normal DVDs as well.

They're both basically DVDs. They violate the DVD spec in places so that your off the shelf DVD drive refuses to read them (a possibility is introducing read and checksum errors in places), and they add some protection so that your off the shelf console refuses to read copies, other region disks, etc (the Burst Cutting Area is one example). But, as we know from piracy, it's as easy as flashing the drive's firmwares to make them work, which means, physically, they're DVDs.

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

I just watched the trailers today on youtube ... its the first real epic game for the Wii . Man , I really hope that it will sell more than MPH :? Anywyas , going to the downloadable content discussion . Actually ( for Kwaad ) a real , complex Quake 4 map , can go up to 40 megs , if its not comprised at all . I think , that with added sound effects , extra characters , map and all , a MP3 download couldent go much over 30 megs ( from wich ~ 3 megs or less the sound file ) . MP3 is deffinatly a more advanced game than Quake3 ... but at this point , well not really Quake 4 , maybe MP4 . Anyways , downloadable maps for it would be possible , but seeing that 10 maps would take up ~ 300 megs , I dont think there will be many . But who knows :)

Original poster, I'm not sure if you're completely retarded. Of course it's a way to promote the game..... Common.... just use a little bit of common sense.

ii) With all the voice acting in the game, a PAL/Europe release could take a bit of work - if they intend to convert the voices to every supported language.

bah I'm sick of this excuse! We speak English here in Australia.
