Locked: Will Killzone 2 suffer as Resistance 2 has? Prediction thread.

Forums - Sony Discussion - Will Killzone 2 suffer as Resistance 2 has? Prediction thread.

umm I am going to say it

R2 isnt what people want. They want CoD like gameplay and R2 suffered due to that. If it was last gen when we were all about halo like gameplay then it would have done better.

R2 just didnt come through and the word of mouth sucked because its not what people want.

If KZ2 is what people want then it wont have the same trouble. KZ2 biggest threat is CoD and people not wanting to already get another new game.

As a proud 60GB PS3 owner I hope a Sony exclusive can break through and become a "console seller" for 2009. I am doubtful this will happen till Sony drops the price. Maybe God of War 3 can turn it around for the PS3. I have a feeling all of these exclusives will do ok but wont attract a huge enough audience to move consoles off the shelf...i hope i am proven wrong though.

Haha. I already bought the game, I have to play it now.
Already making excuses for it and I haven't even started huh?

I'll add it to my sig now.

It would almost be great if KZ2 was awesome. I am buying a PS3 and I want it to be for more than Heavy Rain, Versus and a rental of Uncharted lol.

The game was okay at release, but its problems haven't aged well.  The texture pop-in and framerate dips are extremely annoying these days, and the controls are a tad wonky. I'd definitely suggest decreasing the sensitivity a bit going into it.

Also, the melee/jump system is just broken, and was a bad idea from the start. I'm so glad it's no longer context sensitive in the sequel.

As an avid played of both Killzone and Killzone 2's online, Killzone 2 is so much better than Killzone.  All the cool ideas in the first aren't half assed in the sequel.  You can definitely tell the difference plenty of testing and feedback can make for a game.

uuum...no! Gran Turismo 5, GOW III, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII will ALL sell more than Killzone 2 so your prediction will be proven VERY wrong.

God of War III probably won't sell much more than 3 million.  I'd be surprised if Killzone 2 didn't beat it in overall sales.  The hack n' slash genre is pretty small.

Of course, God of War fans are pretty hardcore, and the third installment will probably sell more systems for Sony than any other game in their future line up besides GT5 (and FFXIII in Japan).

Killzone 2 will probably sell no more than 500k the first week, if not much less. However, I would not be surprised if the game had Call of Duty 4-like legs due to word of mouth, and ended up outselling the title overall after a few years.

Also, just because Resistance 2 didn't sell like Gears of War 2 or Call of Duty: World at War at launch (two MUCH larger franchises) doesn't mean it flopped. It reviewed in the 8s, and is selling like a pretty good AA shooter should. It'll probably sell around 3 million when all is said and done, which isn't bad at all considering most sequels sell a bit less then their predecessors, except for sequels released on a new console (ie DMC4 vs DMC3 or MGS4 vs MGS3).

My only fear is that Killzone 2 could cut Resistance 2 off at the knees, but considering how well Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and Bioshock sold on the 360 last year despite extremely close releases, they shouldn't hind each other much at all.

Also, what about the challenge I made on your wall!?!

I didn't say it bombed.  It certainly didn't match expectations though (broadly accepted ones).

You reckon Killzone 2 will top 3 million when all is said and done?  Ultimately, the PS3 isn't the software selling beast the Xbox 360 is, certainly not when you are comparing shooters.  For example, Gears of War 2 wasn't destroyed at the hands of CoD:WoW like Resistance 2 was.

As for your challenge, I accept it on one condition:

We only apportion any validity too it assuming Killzone 2 reaches a number of reviews close to that given for Fable 2.  The reason is Fable 2's score was dragged down a full four points over the course of the last twenty reviews or so.

So what would you consider to be a reasonable number of reviews given Fable 2 has 89, and a reasonable time period in which we wait for them?

I figured a month would be sufficient (ie the March 27th date I specified on your wall).  As far as a proper number of reviews...maybe 50? 60?  I'm not sure.  We could go for 2 months, if you'd like.

And not all games are dragged down significantly by later reviews.  MGS4 started off around a 93, and people said it would probably be AA when all was said and done.  It's now resting at a nice 94.  ;)

And then there's the rollercoaster taaht was LBP.  It started around at 100, dropped to 93, bumped up to 96, then settled around 95.

Call it sixty reviews then?  However long it takes to reach sixty reviews?

If you're willing, I'll wear a Killzone 2 avatar for a month if I lose, if you'd respond in kind with Fable 2 if you lose?

Copycats! Ronster316 and I had that bet ages before you!

Ah well. Now BOTH of us can win, eh, MM?

EDIT: Out of interest, what was the cutoff for your bet? You can see ours in my sig.
EDIT 2: Sorry, I'm blind. I suppose you have the same cutoff as us! But what if KZ2 doesn't get 60 reviews? o.O

i'd say 400k-500k for first week and 2 million after the years end, but it really is just a educated guess (goin on r2's numbers)

@ makingmusic

He said Killzone 2 would probably be the best selling PS3 game for the entire gen. I just had to make sure he knew of at least 2 or so games that will definitely sell better. Of course it's no insult to Killzone 2 because I'm very excited for it. But we got to be realistic on sales, even though MM, I think Killzone 2 will sell 4.5mill when all is said and done.

Killzone 2 DEFINITELY won't be the best selling game on PS3. Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and GTA5will definitely outsell it.

MGS5, God of War III, and many other games have a chance of beating it.

If we narrow it down to 2009 only, I think only GT5 and God of War III will beat it in sales, because I don't think FFXIII will make it out in the West next year.

Parting with the Skull Kid would be tough...

I was originally thinking the loser could buy the winner a VC game of their choice, but then I remembered about the region restrictions.

How about a change of avatar for two weeks, and keeping a reminder that we lost in our sig for a month?

And besides, I really want Fable II (please announce it for PC ;_;), so the avatar thing wouldn't mean much outside of the loss of my precious Skill Kid.

All sounds fair.

So it's:

- Bet valid after 60 Killzone 2 reviews.

- Two weeks with an avatar of the opposing game for the loser.

- A one month reminder of the bet in the signature of the loser.

Agreed?

Hopefully Nintendo will abolish region restrictions and we can make future bets more interesting

BTW, I just bought Killzone.  Time to put my money where my mouth is and personally play through that crap game

I am going to buy a PS3 at the next substantial price cut, so how's this?  If Killzone 2 goes AAA I will personally buy it and add you to my PSN list to prove it!!!!

DON'T DO IT!  I tried replaying KZ a few months back, and it hasn't aged well, lol.

And agreed on all points, especially the very last line.  I'll hold a special place for you on my friends list.

Shall we add the bet to our sigs now?

I wonder what happens if KZ2 doesn't make 60 reviews....
