It also says SONY is always one step ahead of these people. So all of this data could be months old, meaning RIGHT NOW, the PS3 could be $410 dollars to manufacture or something like that. This leaves me to belive that a price cut still could be possible within the next 4-5 months, and with SCEE saying that they are making an overall profit, then it wouldnt suprise me if SCEE drop the price in Q1 OR Q2 and then SCEA drop the price in Q3 and SCEJ drop it when FF13 comes out.
Could be wrong though.
it doesnt take into consideration exchange rates which have gone horribly bad since the ps3 was released.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
exchange rates help sony when talking about manufacturing. yen being stronger means they can buy more with it.
currencies can't hurt both costs and revenues.

I was about to bump that thread with this...
For those casting shadow upon iSupply (DMJ, I'm looking at you!) - predicting sales trends is one thing, tearing down a piece of electronics and asking manufacturers for volume pricing on components are two different things.

For starters iSupply estimates rough costs, so they could be more or less. Depending how old there info is.

With a 10% margin of error, Sony is still losing money on every console sold. Remember manufacturing, packaging and shipping aren't included (iSupply) only estimates the bill of materials on the device itself. Also, Sony sells the console to stores for less than the retail price (obviously) and in some places (like the whole EU) there are also sales-tax bumping up the retail price.

Yes, but in different market the margins can be better. So Sony might not be losing on every PS3 console made.

It depends on where the PS3 is been sold, all markets won't have the same margins. Once you factor in currency exchange rates and taxes etc.
But thats no different to any product been sold be it a 360, Wii or a HDTV.

Oh boy... so now it's come down to third world countries representing a residual amount of sales as the bastion of profitability?
