Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Fans, will you trade the Wiimote for Horsepower?

We all know the success of the Wii is squarely because of the Wiimote. Without the Wiimote, there is no way the Wii can compete with Sony and Microsoft. I am very happy for Nintendo's Success. But one thing is for certain, it will never have games like MGS or Resident Evil 5 because the system is just not powerful enough. Also, don't we all wish a new Mario game or a new Zelda game will have HD graphics.

So my question to Nintendo diehard fans is, if we can rewind the clock, do you wish Nintendo would just release beast of a console with HD graphics comparable to Sony an Microsoft with just a stardard control pad? Or you are perfectly fine with Nintendo decision to go with something new and get all the casual onboard but have xbox 1 graphics.

I wish Nintendo would have done both when they released the Wii back in 2006. I want my Zelda with Fable 2 graphics and Mario with Banjo graphics.  Oh, maybe with all the money Nintendo is making these days, they will finally give that to us in the Wii 2.

Mario Kart Wii is still the most fun game this generation. Now imagine Mario Kart in 1080P!

No, hell no.

Hell no.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

no

NO, one of the main reasons I bought my Wii to experience motion controls. Also I don't care about how technically impressive the graphics are unless it affects gameplay.

NOPE, without the wiimote I would have kept my PS2 and played nothing but DS games

No way, but If the 360 or PS3 had motion controls like the Wii I would have gone another route.  Yes I wish the Wii had the HD graphics and power of the other systems, but I don't care for the controls.  I stop noticing the graphics when I get in to a game, but the controls always stick out.  If it wasn't for the Wii, I would have upgraded my PC.

Hell, no.

I wouldn't even want both.

IMHO the Wii is pretty near perfect for its time and the addition of HD would make it worse, not better. It would throw the whole thing out of balance.

Sort of like putting a 4-liter engine in a mazda would just make it heavier and harder to park and eat more fuel.

NO WAY!

I will say no for a different reason. I think the leaders at Nintendo called it when they made the comparison to the problem of having too many large predatory dinosaurs compete for territory. Nintendo had not won 2 generations. They needed a win to remain a contender, or at least they needed to not take another ass stomping in terms of market share. I still remember polls in various gaming magazines where readers sometimes debated the likely hood of Nintendo going the way of Sega. Nintendo could not have made a traditional HD console that had any of the ability to sell as well as the Wii. It would have been the Gamecube all over again, but likely less profitable. I am very glad they chose a different path.
