So it needs 810K next week. Quite possible.

 Pretty darn good, in fact considering there are one and a half weeks worth of sales in the Americas left in 2008, then yeah almost 100%

All this talk of whether the PS3 will hit 20 millions before the end of 08 remind me of last year's talks of whether the Wii would hit 20 millions before the end of 07.

Leo, by your own logic the PS3 won't hit 20M in 08 as you peg it at 19.43M after its last full week so it would need 570k in the following 4 days to hit it. Even if we were to be generous with the beleaguered PS3 adn gave it the extra 3 days of 09 it still wouldn't be enough according to you as you are pegging this week as both the biggestweek of the year and at 600k. I think that sales history show that expecting only a 5% drop between christmas week and the week after that is highly unrealistic:

Firstly, last year's christmas week sales were less than the week before christmas due to only having two days in the week before christmas day but this year is likely to be different as there are 4 days of pre-christmas shopping. But even accepting arguendo your 600k estimate for christmas week there is still the problem that last year's drop between christmas week and the following week  was 25%/112k for the PS3, very far from the small 5%/30k needed for your prediction to pan out. Even the smallest drop in precentage, the PSP, sold 15% less so it is highly unrealistic to expect only a 5% drop between this week and next week.

Also I wonder if the DS could break the record for most systems sold in a week?

It sold a little over 2 million in a week last year, it;s at 1.93 million with japan to still go up.

I think it's possible.

PS3 sold 400k last year for the week ending the 28th.  Even though it's basically tracking lower this year each week than last year, we'll give the benefit of the doubt and keep it at 400k.

18.83m + 400k = 19.23m.  That would require 870k to get to 20 million.  It can barely get 870k across 2 weeks, much less 4 days.

Sigh. Amazing Wii, amazing DS, amazing 360, crappy PSP, crappy PS3. Nothing changes :(

I just have to say that Mario Kart sales with hardware sales for the wii are going to be huge. All the retail and online areas in my area are sold out of Mario Kart wii, except for one Kmart about half an hour away. My buddy plans on going there to get one for himself. The wii hardware numbers could be staggering for christmas week. I just can't believe that 8 months after the release of Mario Kart it is still selling at these huge numbers.

It would be a great Christams gift to get the numbers by today :P
