Forums - Sony Discussion - PSP hype dead ?

2 years ago the Sony PSP was the s**t of every gadget and gaming maniacs . Unfortunatly afther huge attention loss in 2006 its semi-competitor the DS got such a huge lead , that it allready had passed the 2-1 ratio .

But is really all lost ... I mean seriously , afther the announcment of the PSP2000 , it seams that some PSP forums that went dead , have been resurected again .

W hats your opinion , could the PSP get back at least partially his old hype , or it will live its life like the mute child ( :P ) . Will games like CC and CoO be able to push it up in the front again , or is it all lost ?

Coment . :)

What are you on ?

The DS is a semi-competitor to the PSP? I would think they are in pretty direct competition.

I remember when people bought every freaking PSP game there was, whether it was some random puzzle game or a sports game.

What Sony needs to do is fool people into thinking the features are worth it...ALL OVER AGAIN.

Well, the ignorant masses are as stupid as ever. Go get 'em Sony!

Not really , the DS is a much more softcore product , wich had managed to capture the everyday person , whom is not neceserally a gamer . On the other hand the PSP builds his ownerbase on ex-gameboy owners , and it also shares that market with Nintendo to . Also , if you read a bit , youl find out , that the two handhelds userbase is pretty different by age , while Nintendo captured the 6-14 group , the PSP is tryeing to capture the 14-25 group , wich isnt an easy task .

So yeah , I think we can easily say that the two have a pretty different userbase deducing , that they are not 100% competitors .

PSP isn't "dead" per se, but it is relegated to second-string. I'd suggest that PSP's lifespan from here out will be similar to N64 (but a little better in the total game selection department).

The fact is, DS has changed the rules. Practically nobody cares that PSP is more powerful, and the extra features (especially the unofficial ones like emulation) tend to take away from game sales - even with a much larger installed base, PSP basically never has hit games with sales like 360 or Wii.

Based on DS' popularity, I think the only way to turn things around would be to come up with a brand-new piece of PSP hardware, or a revolutionary game download system that doesn't require a PS3 to work.

The kind of people that play a DS and the kind of people that play a PSP may very well be different...but they're both competing for the handheld spot, there's not much of a question there.

I don't seem to recall the PSP ever being the s*** of all gadgets and gamers either...Not to flame, but people seem to make the argument that the losing console or handheld is simply not in competition with the winning one.  It is. The PSP is a successful handheld, but it doesn't do as well as the DS, because it's made and advertised for existing gamers, not really reaching out to new users.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I'm sorry you can't accept facts.

The psp is nowhere near dead, things can change VERY fast, I think the main reason why it didint selll well atleast in the U.S was the lack of colors, only black..girls dont like black they like pink, and not much of any AAA games that cant be played on the ps2, I think that when we see God of war, and FF7 CC on the psp, I expect things to turn quikly not out selling the ds,maybe outselling the ds, I will change my predictions and add psp/ ds numbers.
