Seems like typically the more 3rd party companies you have with a console the more games are available. The more games available the more appealing the system. Wii has tons of games the 360 has a very decent selection while PS3, out of the three, has the least amount. There seems to be a pretty strong correlation between amount of games per system and hardware sales. Of course price is a factor as well.

The fact that games on the Sony consoles except for a few exceptions always sell a decent amount in contrast to Xbox which has a few games that go the huge mile but the rest dont sell all that well

In the USA, the sales of Software in recent months of the PS3 and 360 have generally been quite close in attach rate.
It has a lower attach rate because it does so much more than just play games. It also has a lot of online content to choose from. I for one have bought way more stuff online than hard copy. Granted I do have 9 games for it, I have double that in PSN titles. That doesn't even include all the expansions purchased or add-on content. There is also the movie download service that I use quite often.
If you are talking top 10 game sales in any region, then you must be blind, so I'm assuming you aren't talking about that.
If you are talking the "most popular games" section on the right of the page, or the main page of the Game database, that is by crazy fans who have to get their favorite game on the list so they refresh over and over again.
Those two lists has nothing to do with fan base on this site or general interest in those games AT ALL. They are solely based on which fanboys are the most pathetic. I would say anything over 50k hits has probably been auto-refreshed by a fanboy. I'm half tempted to reset the counter on the top 50 most hit games.

Indeed. It's a pity the 360 can't do those things as well.
