Quite ironic! THE console-battle of 1990-1995 was between Mario and Sonic. Rivalism at its best! And now, a game with Mario in it and supervised by non other than Myamoto is the best selling Sega game! Lol! Good for Sega though! Hope Madworld and The Conduit do well too!

Who would have thought mario and sonic TEAMING UP would lead to such success. I personally campaiged for years to see both characters in a fighting game together so i could shove marios hat down his throat...at least now this has happened
I predicted M&S (Wii + DS) would outsell GTA IV (Ps3 + X360) a few months ago (around GTA IV launch?), but it doesn't look like that will happen.
It won't be a lot behind, but it probably won't make it.
M&S Wii total = 9920K
GTA IV total: 11557K
Gap: 1637K
M&S Wii + DS last week = 232K
GTA IV (Ps3 + X360) last week: 141K
Gap: 91K
But of course, we're in the holidays - the gap usually isn't that big.
Estimated gap by the end of the year: 1400K
What can we expect the difference to be after on? Well, let's take the 2 months ending start of October (no holiday boost at all).
GTA IV total: 447K
Mario & Sonic total: 789K
Difference: 342K
Hmm... That's ~ 40K weekly. If it can maintain 25K weekly next year (which would be likely), it should be within 400K by the start of Q4.
Hot diggity! It has a chance! Heck, I'd say it should do it pretty easily, as M&S could easily sell more than 25K more (I find 35K more a lot more likely, which would mean it would be dead on equal to GTA IV by the end of Q3.

It does! Only real contestant is GH3 which is at 9.3M, and CoD 4 at 10.5M, but M&S will beat those.
CoD: WaW has a slight chance, but it is unlikely.

I had never thought M&S to be the best selling 3rd party game this gen....but in fact, this can be real next year! Incredible! Mmm...where are all the people who said that 3rd party do not sell on Nintendo systems?
Nintendo - Hey Sega, if we lend you Mario to team up with Sonic and use the Olympics license in a casual friendly Wii game, can you develop all your good games for us?

Well, in a sense this is one of the reasons they went 3rd party. They felt they would be more successful this way. It is wierd though. Imagine what could be if there were a God vs. Gears of War game.... woah! dude, wow!

i dont think it will pas gtaIv but i am sure sega doesnt care. M&S has praobaly made a ton more money for sega that gta IV has for take two.

The idea that Mario and Sonic (both versions) could outsell the console versions of GTAIV is mind-blowing. It's terrifying.
Do you think that after that Sega may do Shenmue III for Wii....or will they keep doing minigames software (easy money)?
Well Sega made the game much more attractive with the Mario Family.
Had the game only been the Sega family than sales would be good but not as good as they are now.
Also huge sales in China helped a lot. (The OLYMPICS...hint hint...)
