Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Best game in sales from Sega: m&s at the olympic games

Hi eveyone! I am new as a user in Vgchartz and this is my first post. For me it's amazing that such a game like M&S has become the best seller game of Sega's history. When they told that had expectations of 4M units sold (Wii and DS combined) I thought they were freakin' out, but the reality is that this game has helped Sega to survive the crisis that some companies (ejem, Free Radical, Factor 5) weren't able to surpass. What's your point about this?

The right console, the right brands, the right marketing = success.

Amazing sales. And Sega even wondered before the release if would be a sucess. Who could guess, ten years ago, to see Mario & Sonic together?
Maybe in ten years we'll come to see "Master Chief & Samus at the alien slaughtering".

I remember many people thought Sega was crazy when they predicted that the combined DS and Wii sales for this game would reach 4 Million units.

Also looks like Sega will make it back into the top 50 sellers of all time next year with M+S Olymics.

Ironic SEGA's best selling game is one with with Mario on the cover. =P

Pretty crazy though, with the DS version included, it's just shy of ten million.

That would have been blaphemy 15 years ago.

I had personally only thought 2-3 million for the Wii version and minimal sales for the DS version. Simply because it was releasing around the same time as Galaxy, but man did they prove me wrong.

The DS version destroyed New International Track & Field (sales-wise).

This.

Sega has been milking the Sonic brand a lot lately actually. But the cool thing is they seem to be making halfway descent games. M&S at the Olympics is casual and may not be to some people's tastes but is a pretty cool minigame game. And by mid-late 2009 we could see 4-5 Million sellers on the Wii with Sonic in them (M&S @ Olymipics, Sonic & Secrect Rings, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic & Black Knight, Sega Superstar Tennis (has sonic in it :) ) And I fully expect them to release a sequal to M&S @ Olymipics and another regular sonic game in 2010-11.

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.
