Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Sony has Singstar & MS has Lips. When will we see a Wii Sing?

Would not be surprised in the least to see a Wii Sing or Wii Karaoke next year.

Except that in Wii Sing, you wouldn't actually sing, you'd just hold the wiimote up to your mouth like a microphone, and the game will guess what sound you are trying to make.

Nintendo will not make a Karaoke game. Sony and Microsoft will acquire all licenses before they get the chance. Nintendo wont be able to compete powerwise.

I don't totally agree with your logic (I'm sure most recording companies will be happy to sell the song multiple times over to Rock Band/Lips/Guitar Hero/American Idol/Singstar/Everyone else) but you've definitely got the right idea: Karaoke is Red Ocean. Sony and Microsoft already have their own products and with the way music games sell on Wii you can bet there will be many third parties pumping out Karaoke games for Wii by the end of 2009.

Some people suggest Nintendo should go ahead if it can come up with smart ways to "Nintendoize" the genre...I will agree with that, but in general I think the genre is well-established and Nintendo would be better off seeking new ways to bring in new customers or to get recent customers to move upstream to more complex games.

It's possibly Nintendo might make a Karaoke game but I'd highly doubt it. Lot of licensing issues to get over to get a good portion of songs in. Its why Wii Music didn't have a lot of "great" songs. I doubt Nintendo would want to deal with it.

Wii music?

I think this would sell well in the US and EU.
(Remember, a lot of PS2 users have Wii-s now -- and PS2 had SingStar).

The question is access to songs. But with PD, Nintendo library (Hudson makes Mario Party and some Mario sports games, so it is closer to second party than third party in development terms sometimes) and rights acquisition -- there could be enough to put together a good collection.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.
