Forums - Gaming Discussion - In a few years Nintendo will no longer be the handheld gaming king...

The gaming market on the iPod/iPhone is tiny, but it exists and it's growing. The last statement from Apple was that customers download 3 million apps per day, the largest part of them games. Most apps are free, some were for pay. I think we can estimate here that Apple is currently selling games worth 500k to $1 million per day plus an advertising market that may be worth another 500k to $1 million per day.

The market volume of the DS is around $20 million per day (200 million games sold per year according to Nintendo's fiscal reports). So Apple still has a long way to go to be a threat to Nintendo.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

I don't see why this guy got banned. It's his opinion and i don't beleive it was trolling considering he didn't go specifically into the nintendo forums. Also iphone games last i checked were actually selling REALLY well. However i don't beleive a phone is going to take over gaming anytime soon. Hell i use skype on my psp if you wanna call that a phone but still not dominating.

This thread was the perfect thing for me to wake up to. It got my blood pumping and my mouth smiling right off the bat. Kudos, fellas!

Seriously, though, the DS is taking handheld gaming further than any other gaming platform ever has. It's selling more than any other gaming system ever could, and it's continuing to pick up pace. And we haven't even seen the DSi's release yet.

The iPhone and iPod Touch can never overthrow the DS. It's literally impossible, because they have much too simplistic controls (as argued before, Nintendo simplified... but there's a point when simplifying goes too far. Kirby: Air Ride, anybody? Yet it's still more complicated than the iPhone's possible controls). It's also literally impossible due to the fact that gaming isn't the mainstream use for those devices - music, video, and phoning are. They WILL not sell as gaming devices - they will sell as music, video, and phone devices that happen to have an extra gaming feature. Especially thanks to their fantastic price-points.

However, if Apple releases an iPhone/iPod Touch-type dedicated-to-gaming device, that's a different story. Still don't think it'll go anywhere in competing with Nintendo, but it'll do a better job than what the iPhone and iPod Touch can do. NOBODY in their right mind can think Apple's devices have a chance - even against the PSP. Conclusion? You're an absolute nutjob.

Final conclusion: Thread is maximum lulz. 4/5 stars. =D

If the iPod were to be a gaming device, Apple would have to be willing to sell say, a 64GB iPod Touch for only £150.

IMO, the iPod series nowadays is forcing consumers to choose between the lesser of a whole bunch of evils.

You have the iPod mini, small mobile, scratch immune but have very low capacity and high cost per GB.
You have the iPod classic, with the most reasonable price, largest capacity but not so good film playing capability and extremely scratch vulnerable.
You have the iPod touch, best video quality but is a downgrade in capacity for people upgrading from 60+GB iPods, costs too much for the capacity it boasts and it's also extremely scratch vulnerable!

If they could release an iPod Touch with an entirely anodised aluminium casing (scratch immune), at least 64GB capacity and with a price in line with the current iPod Classic's I'm more than willing to buy it.

There is some much wrong in this thread. Glad he got the ban hammer though.

Pixel Art can be fun.

i think they will fail.

nokia that sells over 80 million smartphone each year.

over 22 million each quarter.

and 400 million phones each year couldn't, make it against nintendo.. then sony psp.

apple that barely sells like one of many best sellers smartphones (n95 in it times).

won't make it, and all nseries devices got powerVR graphic chip.

i hope nokia n97 developers start using the graphics chip. but i doubt nokia will try to revive the n-gage or push more than cellphone mini games.

ALL GAMING WILL DIE
ITS THE APOCOLYPSE
THE IPHONE WILL RULE AGAiN
