Forums - Sales Discussion - Salt in a Wound. Lik-Sang

making lik-sang go down (directly or indirectly) was one reason i have negative feelings towards sony's way of business at times. it's imports. that's what people have to resort to when sony doesn't ship things to different countries at the same time. how is it any different than if someone visited a country, and brought back a psp from that country when their own country doesn't have it? anyways, it's the price that i cant justify nowadays.

So it's ok for Nintendo to sue them? EDIT: Many people dont understand this, but there is more than one entity of Sony. If you screw Sony Europe out of selling PSPs by importing them from Sony Asia. Sony Europe is gonna be madder than fire. It DOES hurt Sony Europe. It DOES help sony Asia. They compete. Every PSP sold from Lik-Sang cost Sony Europe money.

im not saying it's ok for nintendo to sue them. i wans't really taking sides. but im saying that was one reason i was upset with sony. it's not that i buy psp from them or anything, but there are import games i wanted for my gamecube and they have closed down one of my import sellers. and now, it's the price of the ps3 thats preventing me from supporting them at this point in time. it's not that i can't afford it, but i dont wanna pay extra for a blueray dvd player since i dont really watch any dvds at all. i'd rather invest that money to make more money.

PSP is region free, so if a person imports a PSP than they could just as easily import a US or Japanese game. People who import generally have an idea about what they are doing with regards to power converters, language barrier, ect. Sony was in no way protecting the consumer. How does Sony Europe and Sony Japan getting in a fight justify destroying Lik-Sang? How is this any more than serving corporate interest?

They didnt destory Lik-Sang. I think Nintendo destroyed Lik-Sang, and Sony just finished the job. Alot of the articles I found, they expected nintendo to take down Lik-Sang.

Sony Europe, or whichever part of the organization, filed dozens of lawsuits in various european countries with a charge that would have not held up in any court I am aware of, and with so many lawsuits launched at the same time, Lik-Sang would have quickly gone bankrupt fighting so many lawsuits at the same time, no matter how easy they were to win. And last time I checked there were no unreasonable laws about buying legal items in one country and selling them in another, as long as that item is still legal in the recipient country as well. Sony, LEGALLY, had no rights suing Lik-Sang over this, it was entirely for business reasons and no other. Nintendo's lawsuit with them was over copyright protection breaking materials, not "buy here sell there" problems.

Also... If lik-Sang could win the lawsuits so easily, they would have fought. If I'm not mistaken, the person who looses the court battle pays the winners fees. Meaning sony would just be hurting themselves. Sony had something on lik-sang. And sony used it. And won. Lik-Sang knew they could not win.

It's not a universal rule that the loser must pay the other's court fees, but often this is the case. Example: Sony had to pay all of Immersion's court fees for that very recent case over rumble.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Excuse me, but BULL SHIT Kwaad. Sony's charge was something along the lines "by using equipment not designed for the region, the hardware is a danger to consumer safety". I don't recall the exact terms, but that's the basis of the legal suit, and it was the same suit filed all over. Lik-Sang met with Sony officials in court in the UK (London methinks) many times over it, and Sony never got anywhere. Then they suddenly launch a SPAM of lawsuits all across europe. I believe that most courts require a represenative of the defandant AND a legal defendant (a lawyer, or have the defendant represent themselves). Now tell me, how does a smaller company like Lik-Sang afford to hire dozens of lawyers AND make sure they have represenatives all over Europe at the same time? Oh, and unless I recall my law incorrectly, outside of a few legal issues, if you don't show up on court date, you automatically lose by default.

Sony just beat them down over time. Boycott sony for sure!
Helloooooo!!! Want to import??? There's always www.play-asia.com to go to. AND they were selling same thing as Lik-Sang, BUT they stopped selling mod stuff once Sony sued Lik-Sang. Anyway they're still up and in business.. so stop whining and go there if you all REALLY want to import!!!
