Heavy Rain as a system seller? That's a lot to expect from 20 hours of QTE

Heavy Rain won't be a system seller, but then neither were LBP, R2 or VC. MGS4 has some system selling potential, but nowhere near that of GT5 WW or FFXIII in Japan. It has slightly more system selling potential than God of War III, which has slightly more than Killzone 2, which has a lot more than inFamous and Heavy Rain.

And it's not 20 hours of QTE, that's like saying God of War is 12 hours of puzzles.

hmmm that depends on country

price cut will benefit them alot in EU countries. but won't make as much impact in UK or US.

I think it's very hard for them to make a come back in English speaking countries now. take care sony :)

Price cut, hopefully Q2 next year.

A large number of PS3 get sold as Blu-ray players thats how they are holding their current numbers against the cheap X360. - This should be quite obvious from the low game attach rates. And that is also why sony can't cut their HW price like MS have.
The X360 has better attach rates - MS can loose $$ on the HW but can make it up in games sales. Sony loose $$ the console and can't make it back on software since people mainly use it for playing movies (ie me and the other PS3 owners i know ).
Sony seem incapable of using their unique motion controller or Cell CPU to make their games any better than Wii , X360 or PC games which is also why they cant get better attach rates ie average games = LOW attach rates for PS3.
Wipeout HD which is one of the best motion sensing games so far still could have been better - they could have reduced the lag more , added sensing feedback and used the yaw gyro for side shift or air brakes. Still a good title but it's not the motion sensing show case it should have been.

They will need to do something outstanding before i be spending any $$ for their games. I have PC and unless they can make games which are unique or better than PC games well no sales from me.
Hope thay can do something otherwise the PS3 is not going anywhere but downwards fast - by the end of this Xmas the PS3 will barly have 20% market share vs MS with 30% and Nintendo with a huge 50%.

The only big advantage that ps3 has, is that there are still so many ps2 owners, that eventually will buy a ps3. And that's a lot of people, they are just waiting for a price cut, especially here in europe.

The question should not be when PS3 turns it around, but rather, when PS3 recoups its losses and starts making a profit for Sony.

The way things are going it wont be anytime soon. But Sony is fortunate that the gaming market is still growing. Thus they are selling more consoles. However, the competition is pushing Sony in to a corner and not letting them secure any more market share.

If they can still sell enough consoles to make a profit on software royalties things will turn around for them. Otherwise the PS3 will go down as a failure.

The second is more unlikely since the install base is currently growing. Its a good sign for Sony. I expect theyll start making profit after the next Christmas season, and will slowly recoup their past losses until they become a financial success in the years that follow before the 8th gen begins. But by comparison Nintendo and even MS will make Sony look bad.

I think the fact that i have not dropped my PS3 into the trash can yet in spite of the consistently average or low quality games means i am somewhat of a PS3 fan.

I think PS3 owners typically are very tough custiomers to sell to. Anyone who can afford a PS3 as a blu-ray player means they probably have a PC too. Sony need to make their games better than PC ,Wii or  X360 experience  if they want to sell to these customers - something which thay consistently have failed to do so far.

I really think that PS3 owners should chill out about the whole console war, even if they never catch the 360 Sony should be all right this generation and the game will continue to be released on the platform. So they should enjoy it.

I really doubt that PS3 can get into 2nd place or even outsell PSP lifetime.

I was a PS2 owner but I bought a 360. In fact so did all my PS2 owning friends bar one. I think the loyalty thing is overplayed.

I never felt beholden to Sony to wait for their next console and quite frankly I havent missed a thing.
