Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony is looking to take Rockstar “under their wings”

I don't buy it. If Take-Two was looking to sell Rockstar you can bet we'd hear about it beforehand and that there would be a bidding war for it.

Not too surprising. With Rockstar making Manhunt, Table Tennis, and Bully for the Wii, Sony probably feels threatened, and for good reason. Especially considering that R* is one of the most consistently good Western developer/publishers out there.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Probably bogus ... maybe its just an exclusivity accord for a new game :?

2/3 Rockstar games are PS3 exclusives.

Timed, possibly, but out of the current 7 games that they list for next gen platforms (inlcuding the Wii), only 2 are entirely PS3 exclusive at the moment.

I think he's only talking about the actual Rockstar games on the PS3.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Has anyone even looked at T2's financials??? This company is bleeding red ink. The former CEO has been convicted for fraud. Sony needs to invest in this company like a hole in the head.

It would be the smartest thing sony has ever done, not to mention that r* makes some of the best games, if we see a spin off GTA or even GTA5 on the ps3, sales would triple at best or even more just for those games in the U.S

1. Didn't Rockstar say they're supporting Wii more? But don't care. Never liked R*....never will.
2. Square-Enix? HAHAHA! Keep dreaming! S-E support the console with the highest userbase. ALWAYS. And so far Wii is going up up up. Why not 360? Lool at 360 JPN sales. Also PS3 JPN sales, They can't "own" them, too bad.

Its either that they support consoles with the hihgest userbase or, they just feel good with sony. There is no way sony can buy square enix, they would need to get weak companies first, r*, then after they invested in a couple of years new GTA games and more exclusive to the ps consoles, would help sony in financial status alot. Then they can make there move on buying square enix.

GG Rockstar, it seems to be the destiny of all good studios to be acquired, so they can wither and die within a huge, faceless corporation.

Or maybe this is just a rumour. :P

Because you know many developers, including David Jaffe, haven't said that Sony offers one of the best working environments and is more responsive to creativity than the majority of development studios...

Wow, David Jaffe says nice things about his boss?

I'm impressed.

Square-Enix would undoubtedly resist it.  They're too smart to think exclusivity would ever be a good idea.

Add on that Dragon Quest is moving to Nintendo systems, and Kingdom Hearts seems to be heading Nintendo's way, and you have an extremely unhappy developer (and millions of unhappy gamers) if Sony suddenly buys them out and says "No."

hum the thing is if R* is for sale... you'll have a bidding contest between MS/ninty/Sony and Sony doesn't really have the money power of the other two especially MS... So I don't see how Sony could buy it except if the "auction" is not open (which I doubt, if sale there is)... it's not like R* is a studio nobody wants...

but as usual it's probably a BS rumor

The only reason why this might happen is because T2, Sony, and MS all seem to making really bad decisions.

T2 should not sell it, just for the IP alone. They would be better closing selling R* while keeping the license. R* is very wasteful, not very creative past GTA and inefficient.

Sony should not buy because they will not benefit from other R* games, GTA is the only major franchise they have.

MS will be hurt by this. It would be too pricey for Sony just to do this to "hurt" MS.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
