Who will win the war?

Shut up. The best thing about this site is that avarage user has more than 20 years, unlike most gamig sites where the avarage is 13-15 years. But than some 14 year old fanboy kid comes and talks crap like this. You are lieing you probablly didnt even played MP. Thats right I called you a liar. On most Top 10/20 best games of all time lists you can find Super Metroid and Metroid Prime. And unlike Halo which had multi-mllion $ advertaising campagin (which costed more than advertising all Game Cube games together btw) MP had almost zero advertising and it still managed to sell well.
And maybe its not OMG good game its OMFG good game.

This may sound unusual, but I'm not sure Nintendo needs to advertize Metroid Prime all that much (at least in 2007) ...

As sad as it may sound for the dominant console, Metroid Prime 3 will be the only game in 2007 on the Wii that has a focus on first person shooter elements that is done particularly well; there may be a couple of other shooters released but nothing on the level of Metroid Prime 3. By the end of 2007 there will be at least 6 Million Wii owners in North America of which 1/3 to 2/3 will be looking to own a high quality shooter in the first person and Metroid Prime 3 has no competition..

I could be wrong, but I expect that Nintendo Wii start advertizing Metroid Prime 3 just to constantly remind gamers who are picking up a Wii that it exists ...

When is MOH:H2 coming out? Thats the only Online FPS coming out for the Wii (32 players on a server) and should sell well *IF* it's got good controls which is admittly a big IF.

I think MP3 will sell well to MP fans and some FPS fans, but for the rest of the Wii owning public an Advertising campain is a must if it is to sell as well as it should.

After looking at another thread on this forum, I think Halo 3 is going to be hyped even more then KillZone 2 ....unless they get a deal with mcdonalds :)

Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 doesn't come out until November 6th, and Battalion Wars 2 comes out on October 29th (both according to IGN) and are both supposed to have online gameplay and both should sell reasonably well but I don't think either will match the sales of Metroid Prime 3.

Personally, I think people overestimate the need for advertizements when it comes to established franchises; I haven't seen any ads for Mario Party 8, Wario Ware, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess yet they all sold well and continue to sell well; in many cases (Twilight Princess) these games will continue to be among the top 200 selling games of the year for the rest of the generation.

For something like Red Steel television ads were a must because it was a new IP that was no where near to being good enough to attract much of a word of mouth campaign ... For the next several years whenever anyone claims "There are no good games on the Wii" Metroid Prime 3 will probably be a game people will get suggested that they play before they make a claim like that ...

Certainly Metroid Prime 3 will benefit from advertizements but unlike Gears of War (which had a good campaign and played commercials on every show Spike TV played for several months) Metroid Prime 3 will not need a single ad to sell 2 Million units worldwide by the end of 2007.

So yeah... this thread is antiquated now... I believe the Hype as begun, talk about Metroid Prime 3 overload today!

Watch your mouth. I'm 14 years old myself and I consider myself a fairly unbiased and objective gamer, although my main choice in gaming is Nintendo. My posts confirm this.

But for the main part, you're right on the 14-year old-fanboy thing on most gaming sites: VGcharts wouldn't exist if the major part of the gamers of my age were posting on it because of flamewars, making it impossible to discuss things properly. This site is nice and objective, a LOT of other sites give some weak PS3/360 game a high score because of it's graphics and a Wii game a low score because it's ''kiddy'' and has ''weak graphics''. I'm not blaming them; they're just playing in to their audience.

And Metroid isn't a OMFG good game, thats Bullcrap. Metroid is a OMFG incredible game.

Just wanted to let you know there are also good 14-year olds out there

On-topic: Metroid will be sold-out first day when it comes out, there are enough fans out there to make that happen. Especially in MP3's case, as more gamers will try the franchise this time. As example, I take TP. A friend of mine was going to buy a Wii, but he wasn't into Zelda enough(OMG) to buy it. In the Wii launch, the only REALLY good game was TP, so he was kind of forced to buy it. The same is going to happen with MP3; many people who haven't tried it before will try it because of the drought.

Lol, maybe even nongamers will try it: the perfect non-gaming family is happy with their wii, wii sports, wii play and Marioparty. Dad, who likes a good action movie, sees the message that he can download a free trailer of a upcoming game when he starts his console. He decides to give it a try, watches it and gets interested. So when he sees a tv-commercial a couple of weeks later, he decides to buy it. Metroid Magic does the rest. Voila, a new Metroid-fan is born!

Yeah...Nintendo rubbed Matt's nose into the new preview downloadable...more to come I'm sure!

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Lol, it was most definitely a slap in the face for IGN's Matt

Deguello was pretty spot on when he said:
"It's a joke because the story itself has functionally limited shelf life. What if ads for Metroid Prime 3 started tomorrow? Or even next week?"

Great prediction, and you win the thread

1. H3 2. MP3 3. K2 I rest my case...

200% agreed. Also the Metroid Preview channel might be a sign of things to come.

I also agree.  I'll be getting both Halo 3 and Metroid Prime 3 myself.  I am pretty sure I'll find MP3 the far better game, but I believe Halo 3 will be the higher selling game.

haha I know that  I wasnt referring to them but to ones that talk crap and lies. I'm registered on other sites where majority of people are under 15 some are cool and some are not. It's just that most of them are starting flamewars and are asking for one on this site. And no I want watch my mouth grandpa.

And guys leave Matt alone, he wishes nothing but the best for Nintendo

I find that when many companies are on top they seem to start working less hard and take things for granted than they would if they were struggling in second or third place. For example Nintendo isn't even putting much of an effort into the two of the biggest gaming shows this year, Leipzig Games Convention, which is the biggest in Europe, and Tokyo Game Show, which is the biggest in Japan (and likely the World since E3 was downsized).

I know some people will reply back that Nintendo usually doesn't do much at the Tokyo Game Show anyways but strangely enough back in 2005 when they were struggling they made an appearance and a presentation and made an effort.

As for Metroid Prime 3 they know it's going to sell and since their other games have been having fantastic sales and the company as a whole is doing extremely well and they don't have to rely on the game to try to increase sales of the console they likely don't feel the need to go out of their way with building hype or having a huge advertising budget for it.

I'm not sure if those titles can be directly compared. Metroid hasn't historically been a shooter, really. Certainly there was a combat aspect, but it has been accompanied with a strong adventure and puzzle aspect to it. Even the boss fights resemble high-stress puzzles, where you have to analyze and exploit weaknesses in your enemy to win. Most shooters have a much more straightforward gameplay: Shoot your enemy while avoiding being shot by your enemy. While they say this Metroid is more shooter than others, I sincerely hope they haven't gone too far down that road.

Furthermore, Halo has mostly succeeded as a multiplayer game, while Metroid is almost completely a single-player franchise. I'm not sure if Killzone is geared more towards the single or multiplayer experience.

It's apples and oranges, as far as I'm concerned.

I call the games of metroid on GC FPS, adventure games.
