Forums - Sales Discussion - Will PS3 eventually pass 360?

good games dont sell consoles.

just look how many kinects are sold despite its high price and poor/average reviews.

theres way more casuals than people who go on websites looking at which system will get which game the following year.

xbox will always have the price advantage but i think ps3 will go ahead simple because it will be supported longer than xbox will and it will be a dirt cheap blu-ray player.

This is just your personal opinion, millions of people dissagree with you. Kinect sales will further even more in the next year, not because is a good advirsed product , but because is working as good as Microsoft promised.

Maybe, maybe not. Who cares?

It all depends on what the magical price drop to $200 does for the PS3. That price point could possibly bring the PS3's  best years in terms of sales.

A lot a people, as shown by the countless "Will PS3 surpass 360?" threads.

This is an old one.

I don't think it will happen, at least not until successor consoles are released. Kinect will hold off the PS3 for most of 2011, and Gears 3/Forza 4/ Halo Remake will likely assure that. After that PS3 could start regaining sales, but I don't think the PS3 has a real shot at overtaking the 360 until fall 2012, the difference is still mssive. By that point successor consoles will at least be announced, so will it matter? Ms will have made its mark by then.

One thing I really appreciate about this thread, is that it made me remember that things weren't really all that much better back in the days. Often when reading threads, I find that I miss how Vgchartz was back in 2007 and 2008. As it turns out here, we weren't really any better back then. We still insulted each other, and behaved awfully to one another.

I suppose that's quite nice, in a kind of lovely ironic sense.

 My predictions:

1) The Wii will start losing it's appeal sometime in 2008 and you will be able to find them anywhere.  The price will drop to a still too high $199.  By early 2010, the gimmicky Wii-mote will not be enough to offset the slightly upgraded Gamecube graphics and Nintendo will have to drop to $99, at which point they will annouce either a replacement console with decent graphics or that they will be a handheld-only hardware company.

xD.

I didn't know that Wii was always going to fall off a cliff next year.

The price of the PS3 is going to drop another $100 next year, either in the spring or, more likely, summer. Remember inflation: $399 in 2008 equals about $299 in 2000 dollars, the magic price-point where the mass market opens up.

History clearly repeats itself.

Sonys  PS3 has more room then any to continue selling. Sonys just briniging to much of the heat next yr. im even expecting new IP'S not related to MOVE to hit retail next yr, but thats a-given anyway.

Wii will dominate and keep its lead but mostly in the fall with PS3 out saling the Wii afew wks early next yr and a small edge over PS3 in the fall.

now don't get me wrong the heat is coming from all sides but as far as a lead console for soft ware next yr is conserned from third party pub's there isn't one with the exception of COD, but that gap is closing and all MS really has is the best game on there console in GEARS 3.
