Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rumor: Target dumping 360 core as well?

shams said:

MS are moving away from the core for two reasons:

1/ They want to push people online - hard to do with the core.

2/ Future games may require hard disk support.

My understanding is that sales of the core have been pretty weak anyway.

This also positions the 360 more against the PS3 than it does against the Wii. Maybe MS have ceeded that part of the battle, and just want to focus now on not letting the PS3 overtake the 360 (anytime soon).

...

If the PS3 does manage to overtake the 360 anytime soon (i.e. 12 months?), its basically goodnight for MS (for this generation anyway).

I completely agree with you on the why they are doing it, but I would add that I think if this true it is very good for the Wii.  Any time the Wii's price gap gets bigger not smaller it makes it look more appealing to the mass market.  But this won't change the mind of anyone who already knew what they wanted.

+2 for Shams

hum or that's the premise of a second price drop with a premium at 300 the 360 would stay relatively competitive to the WII...... I mean if sony can do a 100 price drop (supposition) MS can definitely do one as well
