Forums - Sales Discussion - MS finishes Sony? ANOTHER Price-cut coming tomorrow in Europe

The Fury said:
...do they not want to make money or what? M$ game division still is in the red, regardless of their other divisions and making no money on the consoles won't help them move to the black.

MS is making lots of money in other divisions and can take some losses to increase its  video game console market share and beat Sony in the video game market. By the way things are going next generation will result in MS's new XBox crushing Sony's PS4 by a very big margin in console sales and market share.

Mike you're still harping on about the supposed 'power' advantage? Thus far there's very little to support the theoretical claims of significant differences and definitely not $200 worth. Besides, that may be how YOU decide on a console but I think historically and even currently it shows that your mindset is a minority otherwise wouldn't the N64 have beat the PS1 and the Xbox beat the PS2? You need a new argument.

If you and others read this thread, I think you will be a whole lot wiser:

Just as wise as you. Do still think the gap between PS3 and Xbox360 will be closed mid  hav

I think the PS3 will gain momentum in 2009 and the 360 will loose momentum if that's what you're referring to. Holiday season would make much more sense to me.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

Mike B never gives up in his arguments.Good fun nonetheless.

I gathered that but it's a bit odd in my view. Other companies, if they don't make money somewhere leave that and stop subsidising a failing division to save money. Nintendo haven't got a side division to back them up, if they were going in the red like M$ did, they wouldn't be in this industry any more and Sony's can't afford to subsidise their gaming division with their other ones.

And I wouldn't say that 2nd thing, a lot of people said the PS3 was going to crush it's competition, now look at the Wii. Unless you are saying that M$ will buy their way into this market more so then they already are.

Hmm, pie.

 nice ownage.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

This is rather pointless.

The 360 is already the cheapest console in Europe, so another price cut is unnecessary and redundant, and the Wii is still going to slaughter it week in and week out for the remainder of its lifespan. Even in the case of the PS3, the effect is going to be mitigated as the holidays will be over soon..

Throwing away untold amounts of money just to secure a distant, unprofitable second place is a poor business decision no matter how you look at it.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

Unless MS's aim is more to stop Sony than to make lots of money in this generation.

This price cut is only for the holiday period it seems.
