Forums - Sony Discussion - Microsoft: "[Home] feels like 2005 tech in 2008"

PSUNews: "Speaking with Kotaku, Microsoft's Group Product Manager for Xbox 360 Aaron Greenberg shared his opinion on PlayStation Home, expressing that it feels outdated and there is a "huge gap" in the quality of Home when compared to Microsoft’s Xbox Live service.

"I think we have seen people are willing to pay for the premium experience," Greenberg said. "When they compare Live, even to Home, there is still a huge gap."

"What Home to me feels like is Second Life for hardcore gamers," he said, "it doesn’t feel like it broadens the experience and invites people in. When they unveiled it, it seemed innovative. I think what's happened is now here we are a couple of years later and we feel beyond that."

"It feels like 2005 tech in 2008. I'm not sure that’s what people want."

Needless to say, we certainly don’t share Greenberg’s views on the matter, but with PlayStation Home now entering its public beta phase, we’ll finally be able to see how punters react to the online social platform and whether or not Sony can deliver on its promises in the coming months.

Stay tuned."

My Personal Opinion:   MS Green with Envy? Guess there wishing they would have ripped off Sonys Idea instead of Nintendos Mii's now huh? :P

Only if it succeeds. Notice that MS only copies stuff which works (which is of course the smart thing to do). The Miis were obviously a success, which is why MS implemented their copy.

Once Home is successful they will be all too happy to enter 2005.

Home seems a lot more useful for meeting with and becoming friends with similar minded gamers than anything Microsoft provides with XBox Live!

Meeting with people who visit the game rooms you like to visit (like Uncharted fans), talk about the game through headsets, add-on DS3 keyboard/touchpad and such. You like them (the much cooler and much more customizable avatars provide a first impression) you add them to your friend's list.

You can play some chess, checkers, bowling, pool, etc beforehand to be sure to do so.

In addition Playstation Home as well as lag-less online gaming are free services only needed an internet provider to take advantage of for everyone.

In many ways the PSN is already far ahead of what Microsoft's XBox Live provides, most importantly free lag free online gaming like 12 player Motorstorm: Pacific Rift online multi-player or with Resistance 2's lag free 60 player online multiplayer and 8 player co-op campaign or for example LittleBigPlanet with its huge library of shared user creativity.

XBox Live due to its headstart (and many so so XNA content) has more games to offer, but really the PSN already provides way higher quality exclusives including Warhawk, WipeOut HD, Super Stardust HD, etc, etc.

Music and video stores have been demoed and will be implemented into the PSN, I really don't see the point of Microsoft tapping themselves on the shoulder for something like XBox Live in comparison to what Sony's doing.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

MS got into the beta before I did

from the tone of the article, it actually sounds like MS might be a wee bit worried

XBL Primetime will counter this plus the other things they have in store. They do have them, btw ;) CES 09 and E3 09 will feature major expansions. That is all folks....
