They are extrapolated.

PSP: A quiet success

550 000 PSP came installed swell the French in 2008, bringing to 2.2 million. This means that the console Sony is selling very honorably ... especially given the very low number of games sold. "Catalog of games is low, yet the console is selling well, Georges Fornay confirmed. It seduces with its multimedia features. This year's catalog will be stronger, some publishers have realized that a park world approaching 50 million units, a good game could be very profitable on PSP. The traffic jam that everyone has seen on the NDS should have the effect of the PSP at the heart of the publishing projects of some, "concluded he.

So we found at least 200K of the 6 million worldwide undertracked PSP ?

I really think he's wrong. It's not about "multimedia features", It's about piracy. PSP seduces because piracy is easy.

Interestingly the difference almost entirely comes from before 2008, because PSP sold around 525k according to Vgchartz.

So Wii LTD through 2007 was 1.2m, and DS LTD through 2007 was 4.4m? Maybe we'll get PSP & PS2 numbers through 2008, so I'll wait until I add them, but as you said, PS2 should be ~6m, and I guess PSP should be a little over 2m.

Wii PS3 X360 NDS
LTD through 2007 1,200,000 563,000 589,000 4,400,000
YTD 2008 1,600,000 708,000 566,000 2,225,000
LTD through 2008 2,800,000 1,271,000 1,155,000 6,625,000

Nobody notice that they give not exactly the same numbers for 360 and ps3 at this link:

http://www.jdli.com/article.php?id=120&np=1

(maybe, they don't take the same week for begin and end of the year)

At the same link, sony give LTD at the end of january for ps3 and 360:

And, we can add the psp in the table with what has been posted by BKK2 before:

http://www.jdli.com/article.php?id=120&np=2

Never far away when it comes to cover self-satisfecits figures to support, Microsoft has announced to have reached the milestone of 1.2 million Xbox 360 in France in late January. The console was a U.S. first months pomp in 2009, with increased sales to 244% annual rate. According to GfK, the Xbox 360 would be a bestseller high definition consoles last four months, reducing the very base gap with its rival PlayStation 3. Console Sony enjoyed, according to information from our colleagues of the Journal of Interactive Entertainment, a machine park of 1.3 million at the end of last month in France. In addition, GfK estimates the base rate games (ratio of titles per console sold) to 5.4 for the Xbox 360, according to the President of Sony France Georges Fornay EC, it was early February of 4.6 per PlayStation 3 in France.

Adding PSP to the table we get 5.65m consoles sold last year, but it's still missing PS2, so should be around 6m consoles sold in 2008, about 2/3 of UK number (9.3m), which was also the case in 2007 (UK 7.413m, Fr 5.065m).

An update from Nintendo which clarify some numbers:

LTD at the end of 2008:

Wii: 2,9m (so our number is wrong, and the number of 1,28m we have the last year should be the true number for the end of 2007 http://www.gamekyo.com/news24118_nintendo-ventes-ds-wii-en-france.html )

DS: 6,6m

year 2008:

Wii: 1,606m

DS: 2,9m (i don't understand with the number we already have, it must be a mistake; maybe it's a typo with the LTD number of wii)

Mario Kart wii: 1,3m

Wii fit: 1,08m

http://www.jdli.com/article.php?id=137&np=1
