Forums - Nintendo Discussion - A new Wii in the family ... recommendations.

I finally went out and bit the bullet and bought a Wii from the local Meijer this afternoon.  Now, before any of you go and say, "Well, you have said in the past that you wouldnt buy one until there are more then 2 interesting games,"well ... I did not buy the console for myself.  My 66 year old father has hinted in the last couple of months that he had a great time playing last summer when he went to visit his sister, so my brother and I chipped in to buy it for him.

Now, what kind of games do you think a 66 year old man and a 65 year old woman would enjoy playing on the Wii?  The only game I play on getting for them right now is Tiger Woods 2009, since they both play golf on a regular basis.  Outside of that, anything is fair game.

I am laughing as I write this, lol, but this is exactly what Nintendo wanted.  Old folks playing their games.

Bethesda's Todd Howard "if install base really mattered, we'd all make board games, because there are a lot of tables."

Mario Kart is quite good, I don't know but some eldery people on my local social center enjoy a fishing game, I think it's rapala.

Yeah, my Dad loves to fish, but I am kind of stuck on what type of fishing game to get him. I figure I will pick up Wii Play + remote and go from there. Hard to make a call on the Rapala game, but the Sega Bass game look like it reviewed decently.

They may possibly enjoy Carnival Games. Or maybe Big Brain Academy. Deca Sports?

I asked my sis (she works at the center) and it's not Rapala, it's Sega Bass in fact.

Wii Fit is a must. The balancing is actually pretty good health wise for them at their age.

I'll second BBA.

Super Mario Galaxy is generally a good cross-over game to get them into something more video game like...  It's good for people not used to video games, in that it is not too difficult (although some levels are) for the main game.

Just wanted to say, what an amazing thing Nintendo have done irrespective of all the other shit that goes on here,

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Brain training a great idea! Would mario and Sonic at the olympics be too much for them?

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

One of us...

For the family
Wii Play + remote is a very good idea - though the fishing game on their isn't the best
Wii Music and Wii Fit are very accessible and fun
Mario Kart - My parents love it
Kororinpa or Mercury Meltdown are fun
Boom Blox
de Blob

For you
Metroid, Mario Galaxy, Zelda are really good, but you probably already know if you like those franchises
No more Heroes is good
Fire Emblem

I think the running could give them a heart attack!
