This basicly means 1080P is not TRUE HD?
1080p is only able to be seen on TVs over 48" so 2540p would be like 120" which basically pointless to see.

That all depends on your viewing distance. My monitor is 24" and runs natively at 1920x1200. I can guarentee that at the metre or so I sit away from the screen there is a noticeable difference between 1920x1200 and 1680x1050.

Anyway, the reason this camera (and all high end digital film) is for when you project it onto a giant cinema screen. It is also this high because when applying effects you want the extra resolution. 4k and 2k transfers are the norm in the industry. Generally, the extra resolution allows for better sub-sampling, which is exactly how full blown, AA, motion blur, shadowing etc... works when raytracing. Exactly the same reason why high end audio apps support 192khz 32-bit sound.

Around the Network

HDMI v1.3 already supports 1440p

hell, my local theaters don't even have 1080p projectors... many don't

you WILL NOT see anything near this in your living room anytime soon. HD cameras have been around for more than a decade.

What are you talking about? This will go perfectly with ten thousand inch television.

Mine don't either Vizunary (well one does, but it was only recently added). This is scary lol.

Man, I miss Beta...

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I'm in love

This is exactly why nothing can be "future proofed"

The PS3 (thanks to HDMI 1.3) supports 1440p but we will only see 1440p on PSN games in like 5 or 6 years. Massive games will never see 1440p and few will even see 1080p.

 Is 1440p 1440 x 900?

If so my Pc can support that with Galatic Civilations II. Or were you talking about consoles only?
