Rumor: Next Metal Gear an Xbox release

What do you get when you mix an official Metal Gear website with neon green color and a power button that looks similar to the Xbox 360's ring of light? That's correct, a rumor that the next Metal Gear game will be releasing on the Xbox 360!

Over on the official Japanese Konami website, there's a webpage that is nothing more than the image you see above with text that reads "A Next Metal Gear Is ...". Nothing special, except for the fact that this lil' teaser site is done in "signature" Xbox 360 green and that the weird exclamation point math problem includes a picture of a power button that could be seen as similar to the 360's ring of light. Of course, Konami is keeping quiet to what the website is all about, but we'll give some advice anyway: Don't get your hopes up.

Official Konami site teases 'a next Metal Gear'

A couple of hours ago, on Kojima Productions' homepage, a link in the form of a green power button icon appeared. Clicking on it leads to this splash page which alternates between the Konami logo and the cryptic message above.

The green color and power button symbol are leading some to believe this has something to do with the Xbox 360. However, keep in mind that the power icon appears on just about every electronic device, including the PS3. The icon as depicted above is also slightly modified, since includes an exclamation mark, which is a trademark of the Metal Gear series. Finally, note that "mgst" appears on the URL, which could be an acronym of some sort.

and will point out that the power button is in the "Center" of the red.

That's a silly basis for an otherwise credible rumor. To start, the "power" button to the right is how many power buttons look -- with a straight line replaced by an exclamation point.

Secondly, green is typically the color associated with "powererd on", not "Xbox".

Konami had to know what they were doing here.

Sure, but nothing above suggests Xbox 360.  It suggests power of some sort.

If they wanted us to think "Xbox", wouldn't the Ring of Light be more appropriate? The power symbol is so vague. Even my gas powered 8 year old pc has that symbol.

If it were a 360 the ring would be red

oh zing :P

Seriously though, the i looks like the first i in Wii, and the ! looks like the 2nd i in Wii, upside down. And it's green cos it'll make the PS360 fanboys green with envy

Anyway, nothing here really makes me think it'll be for the 360

I don't get this argument, most electronics use that as the power button, including the wii and PS3. Its more likely saying "the next metal gear is on", or something to that effect

Time for hype

Also, since this is a duplicate thread, I figure it'll be locked in no time.

Oh geez here we go again. This is a bit of a stretch, it seems like people are a little desperate to start rumors here.
