Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is it Wii Bingo week or something? Wii - PS360 not competing...

The OP could have at least quoted an article in a "neutral" gaming site. Just what do you expect from a site named PSXextreme? Heh.

Actually the GC had a load of cross-plat games with the PS2 and XBox. I much preferred GC ports of PS2 games last generation.  I'm playing the GC port of Summoner 2 on my Wii right now, actually.

I think I'm done trying to convince you guys that SSBB and Mario Kart target different demographics than MLB 09, Halo 3 and GT5P, though. Believe what you will.

Love how you totally ignore the long list I made and single out 2 games, which I don't see how Brawl could possibly target another group of gamers as many core gamers last gen bought a gamecube just for Melee, and the fact that it's a very in depth fighting game.  But ignorance is bliss they say...

Than my friends is what is called Cherry picking!

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

I mentioned Wii blackout bingo on the other acticle that the OP mentioned.

But it seems to me that yet another title should be given to Wii games other than 'casual', to, dare I say, compete with 'hardcore' gaming.

I think I'll start up a new topic and see what ideas others can think of.

Torturing the numbers.  Hear them scream.

If they parelleled each other in terms of the games sold then I would say that they are competing directly for the same customers. There is overlap but there are segments which are completely not interesting in the PS/360 and there are segments which are not interested in the Wii and the game sales indicate that.

They are competing in the video games market, theres no doubt there. Its really a question of how much they are competing really. The interesting point is the fact that in terms of the people who visit this site, the PS/360 take the majority of like minded individuals and perhaps this is the source of the complaints about the Wiis 3rd party library.

Majority of those segments are called fanboys...

Funny how its the PS360 people are complaining about a system they don't like, making points like that, yet ignore the support the Wii does have.

Anyone not a fanboy would be interested in all consoles like myself and what great games they can get on each, but logic shows how Wii and PS3 + a gaming PC is the perfect choice this gen cause you miss out on virtually nothing and get the best out of each game you buy.

Not really... I don't see many people buying Xbox 360s for exercise games and yet a reasonably large percentage of Wii owners are doing just that.

Logic shows nothing of the sort. If logic backed up your arguments then we would see many more multi-console owners in the general population. Logic is not your friend here.

Tease.

Ehhhh, not exactly. Only if one assumes that the consoles complimenting each other is effected by price.

I think that I'd hold the idea of getting a Wii and an HD console together as pretty logical, provided you have the funds. Unfortunately, most don't.

Even that logic depends on perspective, though, and the populace at large wouldn't see it as very logical at all.

If you consider the demographics buying each console, more than 50% of people could afford more than one console, but they obvious don't so they consider the logical course of action is to not purchase more than one console.

Its a logical decision if you play a lot of games and your needs aren't being fully met by the console you own. But for even the majority of gamers on this site who will never get to play all the games they will ever enjoy on one console, buying another could be called a "Grass is greener effect"

Tease.

Edit: Im hot.

Well, I mean, I can afford more than one system, but justifying it is hard because I have to consider diminishing returns of enjoyment in terms of dollars spent. I plan to buy a 360 this weekend, but that's still a lot of Wii games.

I don't think "logic" is a binary concept here.

Logic in this case is applied to the topic: "Wii and PS3/360 not competing" The gamers on this forum are not representative of the sales of games. Niche games can be really important here but barely make a splash in the general population.

In the same way the Wii doesn't have a whole lot of shooter type games, the Xbox 360 doesn't have Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Wii Sports so obviously there are segments which they aren't competing for and there are areas where they are, such as Music games and a lot of cross platform titles in the middle ground. Obviously the hyperbole that there is no competition is absolutely wrong, but there is a grain of truth in that. Perhaps the way to take this thread to fruitition is to determine the degree of competition between them, and game sales data is a good way to begin.

Btw, enjoy your Xbox 360.

Tease.

I see all 3 consoles for sale in Game, Gamestation and Cex in the UK and for sale in the same section in other stores.
Not once have I seen the Wii in with the toasters or vacuum cleaners so I guess retailers must think they are part of the same martket.
