Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Thought about Nintendo's lack of 'hardcore' games of this season

I just had this thought about the drought:  Do you think part of the reason they didn't have any big releases (Kid Icurus etc) could be because they want to add Wii Motion + capabilities to the games and delayed to push alongside its release?

If so, the drought could be worth the wait.  Of course, it also could just be a sign the really are abandoning the core for the casual...

WPM could be one reason.

Another is that they had planned this "gap" to let third parties step up like they did with the DS. Unfortunately, they have not done so, making Nintendo's line-up look weak.

(One thought for this. If Nintendo wanted to make sure its 4Q lineup was "stronger" -- it could have delayed Wario Shake It for two weeks -- pushing it into the first week of October.).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

I think it's entirely feasible that Nintendo wants to get a feel of the capabilities as well as the limits of their motion sensing before implementing that technology into a popular franchise (which, if bombed along with poorly-researched controls, would destroy the franchise, and thus, Nintendo)

I believe Nintendo knows what they're doing, and I also believe Nintendo knows that they are depriving so many "hardcore gamer" of titles they truly desire.  I'm confident we'll see a change in their slew of titles in the next few years or so.

I'm with Mike on this topic. Nintendo's developers already knew about the Wii motion plus. They've already figured it into their development plans.

The lack of titles is more related to 3rd parties. If you look at companies like Ubisoft that produce a lot of shovelware titles. They tend to flood the market during the holidays causing good games to be lost in the shuffle.

Secondly, Nintendo is only one company and does not make games in all genres. They need help and third parties always complain that they cannot compete against Nintendo developed games. This is why there is this empty window to be filled by third parties. But third party developers have abandoned the core for the Expanded Audience.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

mess up of release dates. they seem to have a stronger Q1/Q2 next year than Q3/Q4 this year. from some reason wii's releases are very front loaded

I don't know that Nintendo could have released any games that would sell in the same neighborhood as Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii.

Not before this spring, no; but I have a feeling Wii Sports Resort will be in the same stratosphere as those titles.

The idea that WSR may also sell twenty million units chills me to my core.

What do people even do with that much money?

Well, we have to agree on one thing, Nintendo may have wanted to focus on the casuals and bridge games for the whole of 2008/2009, that's why we won't see any core games or simply 1 or 2 in 2009. The real year of the Wii for 1st party games will be 2010.

For all we know, 2009 could be the worst 1st party year for the Wii, but luckily 3rd parties will be here next year with a lot of support, meaning that 2009 will be the year of the third party for the Wii.

2007 was a good year overall, 2008 was a really poor year overall.

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

@Rol: I have to agree and disagree. Nascar could be coming for this christmas, so it's not a 2009 title. But then again, it could e coming in 2009, therefore saving the Wii.
