Forums - Nintendo Discussion - how do you feel about dewy's adventure. Will it pick up now in sales?

@WiiGirl76...DKII is suggesting that Konami is intentionally foiling its own efforts on the Wii by putting "modest effort" into "token" Wii games. I don't believe either of those to be true. More than A "modest" amount of effort went into Elebits. The physics model alone rivals much of what we saw in some of last generations best games, and even many of today's "Next-Gen" games. And Elebits did not utilize the controller in a gimmicky fashion, as would be expected with a "token" Wii game. Konami made you truly feel that you were using a gravity gun. The connection between the image on screen and the wiimote in your hands was seamless. This is more than just cashing in on some wonky controller that you waggle to mimic button presses.

I know DK's rant is an off the cuff remark that may hold some water. I just take exception in this particular case because Elebits was the first game that truly showed me the anti-Wii bias of many sites. On any other system at any other time the game would have been lauded with praises. Exitetruck would be another example. While neither game offers the true "depth" of their associated genres, FPS and racer, the arcade "pick-up-and-play" quality can not be underestimated. Both games offer over 20 hours of immersive entertainment though appear to lack depth. Gears of War on the other hand last 9-12 hours and people announce taht it is the second-coming of Halo. The HD bias is apparent.

The fact is, no matter how good the game is, how perfect the controls are on the WII, people go for over-hyped franchises and / or easy going games. Mario Party 8 got low scores all over the West and even in the West it's the best selling Mario Party game ever. Mario Party 8 didn't even get scores from Famitsu, it sells only because it got the names "Mario" and "Party". Two magic words.

If Konami is intentionally foiling then I can say that about Square Enix and Marvelous as well and most of all Square Enix. The only 2 who most likely are taking the most effort are EA and Capcom then and slightly a Ubisoft. But just check Amazon Japan if you understand any word of Japanese, a lot of the people who bought DQS did that because they're a Dragon Quest fan and all end up highly dissappointed. The ones who're happy about the game are the real casual gamers, who only have about an hour a day to spend on games. Elebits had at least some potention and I really love the game not to imagine Excite Truck which I simply adore! I've got the feeling a Zack & Wicky won't sell that much either. Seriously, if that game bombs hard in Japan, I really will consider to sell my WII! Oh but then again, no Mario Galaxy.... forget what I've just said...

Elebits and Excite Truck were launch games, but Excite Truck is still one of the best 3rd party games so far IMO.

Why would you sell your Wii, WiiGirl? Because a game bombs? Ico is one of the best games on the PS2. It did horribly, and even got a sequel. Games will be made. Just because a few don't sell that well right out of the gates does not mean that they never will. Nor does it mean that that studio will never make a game on that system again. Wii has a low development cost. A flop doesn't mean quite the same thing on the Wii that it does on the 360 or the PS3. Have faith WiiGirl.

Wow, all this because Dewy is boming in Japan? Did anyone expect the game to sell at all in Japan? I didn't. To me it looked like a game aimed at modest sales in NA. Why they released in Japan first (or at all) escapes me.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

I expect to sell decently, probably a bit more than Elebits. Though the game is after all a new IP, released in a week were there were about 6 games far more important than it, and with no marketing...DKII theory can actually be true...it was a very bad move and I think Konami knew it. Well, as long as Wii gets Winning Eleven in the future, I don`t care about their other franchises, which besides MGS, aren`t that big.

First, wehy does everyone say "Oh, only party games sell on the Wii". I love how people assum but the WEii hasn't been out long enought to tell which games will sell.

Also, I thought DKII's post was about advertising. I know Elebits didn't have an amazing one.

Dewy's Adventure release date was planned for weeks, Mario Party 8 came out of nowhere with a release date on the very same day when Dewy was planned to release. Konami couldn't prevent this as they didn't know it. Postponing they don't do much often in Japan, in the US / EU on the other hand they don't have a hard time of postponing games.

And no, not only because Dewy bombed, more games are kind of bombing, so does on the PS3. I'm just getting tired about the casual, party image of the WII at the moment, which gamers show and so do commercials on TV. Open your eyes and see for yourself on the Dutch TV. All you get to see is a commercial about Big Brain Academy, how convenient it is showing pictures on your WII, how stupid it looks like looking your dad like an idiot via the MII channel, but showing a Zelda for instance? Forget it!

Indeed, it's all about advertising, but if Nintendo tells us core gamers are not been forgotten, then it's not because of how they're advertising, now is it?

television is a mass media none gamer intermediar it's logic they show big brain academy I am actually happy with that game and so is my mom I showed her dewy and she seemed to like the look of that too.
It's all about how you spread the word yourself.
I see the casual games they advertise a way to sell the system thus getting more people to buy more after they get tired by it.
Nintendo cant help it konami does not advertise their stuff.
I aspect a good advertising from nintendo in holland with metriod prime.
I even seen zelda advertisement before.

The only minigame collections I can think of which have sold well are MP8, RRR, WW & Wii Sports. Wii Play is really just an impulse buy for people who are purchasing a wiimote.

There are plenty of games in other genres which have sold well - Tiger, Madden, Red Steel, Zelda, Parer Mario, Strikers Charged, RE4, DQS, Excitetruck ,etc.

I think this idea that the Wii is just some mini-game machine is a little misguided and is perpetuated by individuals who are either ignorant or have an anti-Wii agenda. That is why I'm surprised at WiiGirl's comments as I know her to be neither.

There are games on all systems which going on quality should sell better or worse than they actually do, this is how it has always been and I don't see it changing any time soon.
