Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony stepping up the plate in 2009

Yea, I don't think GOW III will make it. But if FF XIII(in Japan), KZ2, Infamous, GT5 and Uncharted hit in 09 it will be a very good year indeed. The problem for Sony right now and going forward is to stop the bleeding and that is the biggest problem of all at this point. If they stay on pace this fiscal year, which they probably will because of the worsening economic situation and continued strength in the Yen they will be dipping into PS1 profits by the end of the fiscal year. Then they have to price cut next year on top of that. It's a pickle no doubt about it. So while agree it has had some great games to date it has certainly not been two great years from a business perspective. It's been the worst Sony has ever been through and that is not good.

I don't know but the 08 was a year for the ps3 for me in terms of quality games, it had the most this year. In terms of sales was doing very good until Microsoft says was ps3 are kicking our butt need to drop the price boom now is getting huge sales,  if the ps3 have a price drop they going to seel more than the ps3 but they lose the second spot that for sure maybe if the ps3 can be still on the market by 2013.

The momentum is in Microsoft Hands.

When Sony will cut the prices... do you believe Microsoft will sit and stare?
Microsoft will probably cut another 100$ on Elites, and will replace Arcade by the Pro(60gb) at 199$.

Xbox Live is the online service of choice.
A true social phenomenon.

With all the big 2009 games for Microsoft (Mass Effect 2, Halo Wars, Alan Wake, Star Ocean 4, Halo3 ODST, GTA4 Lost and Damned, Ninja Blade, name it...), I don't know how Sony can gain ground...

 $99.99 XBOX 360 confirmed?

I'm looking forward to Uncharted 2 as much as anyone else, but that comment from many is way off. Compare the sales between the last versions of the Sony games, and the last versions of the Microsoft games mentioned coming out next year. The sales are pretty even, if you take a look at the numbers.

Halo ODST will sell more then Kill Zone 2, and Grand Turismo 4 Sold double Forza 2 so I expect it to do the same again. The thing about next year is the titles we don't know about, that could be breakout hits from either side. Will Infamous/Alan Wake be as good as we hope? What is the next lionhead project? How about ABP, Champions, The Agency , etc. Its too early for this speculation. Everyone thought Lair and Heavenly Sword (which I like) would boost the PS3, and it didn't happen. This year was supposed to be the year of the Ps3 with  Motorstorm 2,  Resistance 2, and LBP (which I loved the demo) and the boost didn't happen .  Let's enjoy everything from this year before we worry about a battle that won't really start till February.

Bring on Good games period.

Halo is a beast, add this one is at budget price it will sell very well but come on, Killzone 2 is going to sell very nicely to say the least. The thing Sony are doing next year compared to this year is releasing games for established franchises:

GT5 which MS has no anser to, please dont say Forza as the sales just dont compare

FFXIII in Japan...nuff said

Killzone 2 - Hype alone will have this game sell millions

GOW 3 - Nuff said

Heavy Rain - I dont think that one has to sell huge numbers, dont think it cost a bundle to make

Uncharted 2 - Should sell a million easily, first did 2 million after all

MAG - meh but it is a Zipper Interactive game, add SOCOM to the title and bang you have yourself a million seller

I don't think M$ does either. 2009 PS3 Lineup>>>>>>360 Lineup IMO

That's what was said last year... and when GT 5 and God of War III gets pushed back to 2010, ps3 fanboys all around will change their tune to 2010 PS3 lineup>>> 360 Lineup...

Seriously don't you guys get tired of repeating the same lines?

What is with your sig, comparing something a company said 7 years later? The same people probably dont even work there, I get the strong feeling that you are of the "xbot" variety.

History has shown that the 3rd year of the console is its best. The 360 is finishing its 3rd year and the PS3 is finishing its 2nd.

As much as you would like to think that M$ can cut the price again, they can't. There lack of quality is still costing them to much money for them to cut prices any time soon.
I expect M$ to add new SKU's and rely on there already known '09 game lineup, but no price cut.

you know microsoft are trying to beat sony like there life depends on it. i wont be surprised if they cut the price to $50 next year before december. its already £120 in the uk, nxt year its going to be like £80 in uk, same price as ps2. the fact is microsoft will do whatever it takes to beat the ps3.

lol its funny, everyone is saying how the 360 is doing great, yet according both to this site and sonys numbers, the ps3 has still sold more so far in 2008. if 360s numbers are good then what does that make ps3's? only its second year aswell and such a hgh price tag! 360 is on its 3rd year and those are best years! this is its best?
