Forums - Sales Discussion - Its the XBOX360 going the way of the PS2?

The X360 is going the way of the N64.

- Does decent, and isn't as bad financially as you could be afraid off.

- Gets toasted by the leader.

- Has an unusually large split between highest selling and lowest selling on the platform (of course, not close to N64, or any Nintendo platform).

- Is in an inferior format (vs Bluray) to a competitor, yet it still is capable of doing just as good as the competition if dealt with correctly.

In terms of the game library? Yes, its the closest to the PS2 that we've seen this gen, great exclusive games, and most of the other games are multiplatform.Sales wise? No

It can't even touch the Wii. This is getting a bit ridiculous now.

i agree, MS and their fans are acting like the 360 is in first place and no one can touch them. its ridiculous to compare the ps2 to the 360, besides the reliablily problem the 360 has, its no where close to selling at the rate the ps2 was. and 360 has barely half the amount of must have exclusives the ps2 had.

It has already beaten the PS3 for good.

Its gaining a lot of momentum day after day...

 Wow

1. It has not beaten the PS3 for good

2. Its only got momentum due to the price cut it had. PS3 price cut will have a bigger impact

I dont think the wii will get to PS2 numbers, sure its amazing now, but what will happen when the PS3 is 299?

The Wii will be $199. LOL

Wii>PS3 in sales forever.

The GC was 199, did it beat the PS2 at 299?

Anyhow I still dont think this gen is over, its going to be a very very very long Generation, I know for certain nintendo isnt going to just stop its cash cow wii, and I know microsoft said they will release the next console " a day" after the ps4.

The proper response is:

Wii =/= GC and PS2 =/= PS3

A better arguement would be that GC and Xbox price cuts never cut into the sales of the PS2, and neither will X360 or PS3 price cuts cut into the sales of the Wii.

And leo you've got the quote wrong.  MS says they will support X360 a day longer than Sony supports PS3.

That's not entirely accurate.  They said they would kill the 360 1 day after Sony kills the PS3.  They can still release the next xbox early and have both on the market like Sony is doing with the PS2.

A 200$ PS3 would completely obliterate Xbox360 in sales.

Not that they afford to drop it to soon, i have no ideea actually what the future will bring :)

"You have the right to the remains of a silent attorney"

In terms of sales? no I don't think it will get to 120 million, only console with a shot at that in my mind is the Wii.

In terms of library? I don't think it has the perfect environment that PS2 had to dominate from a game library standpoint. The reason the PS2 had such a great library was that 3rd parties were fully behind it (360 has this) and it mopped the floor with all of the competition from a hardware sales aspect (Wii has this). Basically I don't see Wii or 360 getting to the kind of library that PS2 had.

...

It's already more like the PS2 than the PS3 will ever be.

That said, I don't think any console this gen will be comparable to the PS2.
