Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Just bought an xbox on Ebay

Ok, I just got a refurbished Xbox 360 on Ebay, this is my first time owning any Xbox so I have a few questions.

1) What is the power brick? How much do these run (its not included)

2) How exactly does xbox live work, what all do i need for it.

3) What do I need an HD for? I don't have one atm, but I plan on getting one in the future.

Thanks for the help :)

Wow, you bought one on eBay *and* it's refurbished? Do you know how many problems you've opened yourself to?

Anyways,
1) Power brick - the part that plugs into the wall. I don't know if those are sold separately, you'll probably have to eBay that too.

2) You need an internet connection. If you want to play multiplayer games with people you will need to pay for XBox Live Gold which runs I believe $40 for 13 months at Amazon.

3) You'll need *something* to save your games on, download games, watch movies, ect. You can get away with just a memory card if you want but I believe 20 gig hard drives are pretty cheap.

Eh, I can send it back for 30 days and I intend to if it is having problems. I have bought and sold a decent amount of stuff on Ebay and have yet to run into much trouble.

And just to expand on that refurbished comment, here's what you get for buying a refurbished 360 off of eBay:

  1. You're taking the sellers word for it that the console works.  For all you know they could have done the towel trick (fixes dead 360's for about a week to a month) and stuck it in the box to ship it.
  2. The console could be mod'd, which would void any type of warranty and may affect how it runs things.  And speaking of warranties...
  3. You have no 3 year warranty because refurbished 360's are not covered by the 3 year warranty.
  4. You have no idea how old the 360 is.  It could be a launch 360 that's just waiting to die, or you could be lucky and it's a newer reliable one.  If I had to bet, I would bet it's an older one.

Good luck.

Power Brick is going to run you around $40 used. They are $100 from Microsoft (ouch)

I hope you didn't pay much more than $5 for it. With all the extra stuff you need to make it work, it might have been better for you to buy a new Arcade.

Not a good idea, I'd only buy a REFURB 360 if I can return to a place or someone within 1 month. I wouldn't pay more than 100.

a refurb 360 wow, im avin a hard time decidin on buyin a new one O.O you are braveee

I paid much less than 100 and it has a 1 month return policy. The guy has answered questions pretty well. So, all in all, its not really a large risk. Right now I am gonna play mostly rpgs and single player games, later i will prolly do some of the online games. So, I can pick up an HD and live subscription then.

100 for a brick? Seriously, thats nuts. I am gonna get a used for 40ish then.

you might want to make sure the xbox you bought also is not banned otherwise you won't ever be able to use Live on that xbox
