I find all the talk of closing 1st parties and plans by vivid 360 fans to discontinue the PS3 in this thread funny at this point.

It makes no sense at all, in a worst case scenario Sony would up the PS3 hardware pricing up to break even levels, concentrating on profitable software sales.

That's of course not the case, the price of a PS2 is even being / has been dropped to 69-79 Euros at big retailers like Media Markt or Aldi. That's pretty aggressive pricing to compete for the low end market.

No matter how funny you find it it's still a possibility. I think Sony would rather get out of the phone/music business before they'd consider ditching SCE though.

Yes, raising prices could happen. Did you read this article someone posted the other day? It's just for the UK but it does show that the low European currencies are hurting them.

Of course, it doesn't talk about raising console/game prices. That would put them in a very bad position competitively, as the PS3 already has enough trouble even at 400 $ / €.

Around the Network

wow, this thread suddenly expanded... haha

Anyway, I'm being a bit optimistic, but I do think Sony Game will show a small profit in US$ for the holiday quarter.

And again, those NET PROFIT numbers per item were based on calculations dating back to 2006-2007. So if you have time, read the previous threads that I have posted.

Microsoft may be copying their pc strategy a bit - where they provide software (x360/live) and let EVERYBODY from the big guys (EA) to the little guys make games, movies, etc.(applications) for the (operating system) XBox Live.

@ssj12: Interesting, I didn't know that. I'm curious about what will be announced next year.

PS: Panasonic (suffering from the same problems as Sony, to a lower extent due to higher profit margins) has announced it expects to lose 98 billion yen ($1 billion) in the last half of the fiscal year. They made 128 billion yen in the first half ($1.34 billion).
