Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony...why do you do this to me...

Maybe the "leaked" pricecut in March 09 hurt the PS3 more.

Sony's in a dilemma: Go all out this gen to take back second place (and risk losing more money) or weather this generation (and come prepared for the next).

Sony won't ever admit it's programming a price cut and when, it would kill sales before it.

Edit:

@hotrodx:

I agree about March 2009 leaked or simply commonly predicted cut damaging current PS3 sales.

About Sony strategy, I think they're sticking on following their timeline without directly reacting to MS' moves, as MS would just hope for it as it's currently leading the game (at least for 2nd place sake) and a direct and predictable Sony reaction would be the best for MS interests.

Sony couldn't do anything for this Xmas anyway, it's too late to increase production and shipments enough to fully exploit a conjectural big price drop, the best they can do now is to sell out all units produced for Xmas and negotiate much lower 3rd party supplies' prices restarting production in the dead period after holidays, while ordering extra supplies now their price could even be driven up and possibly result in shortages anyway.

BREAKING NEWS!!

We have reports thats Sony has stoped production of the famous PLAYSTATION 3™.

We have also recieved that Sony is keeping the production of PLAYSTATION 2 going.

Whats this?

JUST IN

Microsoft also known as M$ has now raised the XBOX 360™ arcade up to 500$ and the Pro 600$ and the Elite is now 1000$

Looks like Microsoft has won the console war huh Bill?

2minutes later-

Bill we have reports that PLAYSTATION3™ owners are trading there console into Gamespot for 50$ and no future games will be made for the console, what a shame that some kid on the internet brought down the PLAYSTATION 3 all by himself.

I can't imagine actually being bothered by having your favourite console outsold. As an owner of a PS3, the only reason I would care for more people to buy it is to secure further games on the console.

I hate to be so pessimistic but saying that you 'can't take it' sounds very worrisome.

If you are a ps3 fan, you'd understand that sony can't make price cuts in it's current condition. You'll also understand that the current sales of the console has in no way changed your enjoyment of the games released on it. You'll also understand that 2nd place or 3rd place or last place or least place doesn't affect the your gaming habit because games would continue releasing on the ps3 and it would remain in the market until sony corp. discontinues it's production.

Quote me on this: the vast majority of 3rd party games that release on 360 WILL come to ps3 regardless of it's position during/after this generation comes to a close.

So I ask you Afterman, what've you got to lose? Bragging rights on these forums? LMAO

Why do I have to be a PS3 fan to understand that?

Yes, we all know that Sony wants to make a profit, at the expense of marketshare.

It's not that they can't drop the price. They certainly could. It would be a good move for the long-term. It just would lose them money for a while. I dont think it would drag them under. I think that everyone assumes it is "all or nothing" but a 25 dollar price cut to stir interest would help.
