Hi,

Im not sure of others,  but id like to see how much;

a) Revenue a game makes  for its publisher.

b) the profit is, in comparison to the devolpment price.

Its all well and good knowing a game sold 200k units,  but it could have lost a million bucks !! :)

is this a possibility for VGchartz to track ?  or is there a site anyone else knows of that does this ?

I think that you're in the wrong place, go ask in the Sales thread.

It'd be near impossible to acertain production costs for any decent % of games.

Only a few mega-big budget titles have production values that are known.
However, ioi *could* add something for revenue - taking the sales for a week, multiplying it by the RRP, and getting a number.

Only bad part is Nintendo owners would have a caniption over how grossly under-preforming the Wii would be doing.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

how much of the RRP does the publisher get ? does anyone know ?
like, they sell it to the retailer 1st right ? so a $50 game at retail was sold to the retailer at $35 or something like that ?

The things I know about this are the retailers do not make that much money off of a game (let than about $10) which is why they push used games so much, and the console manufacturers have licencing fees in the $5 to $10 range (IIRC the XBox and PS2 Licencing fees were $7 with the Gamecube at $8). The problem with projecting revenue from this is licencing fees are dependant on the game and publisher (Nintendo might offer Square-Enix a $2 licencing fee if they brought Dragon Quest to the Wii), not all retailers get the same price on games, and not all games have the same MSRP.

I'd rather ioi and the gang just concentrate on sales numbers, primarily getting more historical data from previous generations(which is a huge task). That is much more important to me than having the game's budget and revenue. That is interesting stuff for sure, but as others have said it would be nearly impossible to do for the vast majority of games.
