I really think that one of the big mistakes MS did, is releasing a SKU without a HDD. Maybe if the HDD was in all 360s, MS could have avoided PGR4 size problems and giving Sony a shot to say that they were always right by choosing BD for the PS3...
Not forgetting that XBLA games would be able to use more space!

Microsoft was giving the consumer a choice to buy hard drive, there's a reason why there console is only 300buks, unlike sony that forces you to purchase the harddrive increasing the amount of money you would have to waste.

Now you can 'choose' to buy their overpriced hdd to continue playing. Thanks Microsoft for thinking ahead!

Yes, you can. Besides, having the choice not to spend a lot of money all at once is actually worth money to some folks - see loan and interest. Crazy world, hein?

Reality has a Nintendo bias.

Well, sometimes, you gotta make that choice for the consumer, and people with a Core 360 must feel like they have been raped when they'll try to buy all stuff now!

Yeah because companies are always looking out for my best interest.  Sony made the choice for me to have a blu-ray player which just made it too danm expensive for me to afford.  Would I like to play resistance of man or Motorstorm? Hell yeah because I am a gamer but can I afford $600 maybe but I am perfectly fine with not having wireless and HD format as DvD's look perfectly fine to me.  The thing is I am sure over time I will buy a ps3 though it will have to be $400 or less though by that time the 360 will be cheaper so the 360 will ALWAYS be ahead in my opinion.  Bottomline is the 360 has way more games at the moment and is cheaper if you only buy what you need to play the games you want.  Now with the price drop coming up it will be an even better value compared to the ps3 if you don't want the blue-ray or wireless setup etc.  Those are nice things to have but not needed for gaming :)

I think it would be one more nail in the coffin if true.  I really want to buy one in 08, but if they do this I will not.  Still selling faulty hardware and going back on their word (xbox website says nothing about playing normal non-online games requiring a hard drive).  I am really not trying to troll here, they just keep finding new ways to make me angry, I want to like them, I am a gamer first.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Bit of a betrayal if true. Unless microsoft really bring their HD prices down for core owners.

Sharing your opinion on my topic is not trolling and appreciated as it is nice to have different views for better discussion.  I have to agree that they have said all along that you wouldn't need a hardrive to play games on the 360 though for just about everything else you do need a hardrive.  Is a tough business and hard to keep everyone happy as SONY and even Nintendo have not always kept their promises.  Of the 17 people I know that have a 360 all but 1 bought the premium. The only one that got a core bought a hardrive about 3 months later.  He told me he bought the core as on impulse with a memory card to play dead rising but then later on he wanted to try out all the demos and play on live he went ahead and bougt the hardrive.  Basically if you still just have the core then yeah you may feel betrayed but I wouldn't be surprise if Microsoft lowers the price of the HD so it is not a big issue especially the core being such a minority.  At least right now if your a gamer you owe yourself to have at least a 360 or wii and if you can afford it the ps3 as it is going to be a fun holiday season :)

Steven, are you planning on even buying a core? if so, I understand. If not, I really don't understand how you'd be angry over something that effects *maybe* 1% of all Xbox 360 users.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Are there really only a 100,000 Cores out there?

Personally, I get the reasoning behind the core, funny thing is that decision was made back when Xbox had trouble competing with PS2 price-wise because of the built-in hard drive. MS kept the price about even with PS2, but lost a lot of money because of it.

If Microsoft had known PS3 was going to be $500-$600, it probably wouldn't have bothered with Core in the first place.

Yeah I honestly think the core was really there to compete with the ps2 and even wii since those don't really need a hardrive to play most games. Basically you can say your able to play HD games for only $50 more then the wii or $30 once the price drop is available. The core could be useful in helping people decide how they want their 360 experience to be if the accesories where priced accordingly. Would be nice to offer a core for like $200 and then have the option for lets say $50 wireless adapter and $50 20 gig Hardrive or $100-$150 120 gig drive and even make the wired controler like $25. Most of that could happen next year if the core stays because prices will keep dropping. Also keep in mind that as long as the core is in place then the prices have to add up so that each version seems like a value though with the current price drop being rumored it does seem like the core get the worst value and premium looks the best which is nothing new really.
